The votes are in and have been counted: we now have a winner for Player of the Year 2012. Read More from the official site... NOTE: The number of page impressions the club get on the official site also improves the ammount of money going into the club coffers. We all know we need every penny we get our hands on so if you'd got out of the habit of visiting the club site then could I suggest you visit it more frequently? The club are aware of the short comings of the site and plans are in place to rectify these.
Disgusting voted for by the common fan. Announced privately to a select few who can afford to pay. BFC have totally devalued the award and theyre too short sighted or blinkered to even acknowledge that they have.
Re: Disgusting Plus even though you could vote for Vaz Te i'm thinking he will be omitted as it's going to show them up him winning it and maybe Drinkwater in the top three as well.
Wait a minute, you're the first to say the club has no commercial accumen then when they actually take an opportunity to raise a few quid, you have another go. Come on, you cant have cake and eat.
Re: Disgusting Does it really matter? You're going to find out anyway, does it really matter if someone finds out before you? Stop being so childish.
Re: Wait a minute, you're the first to say the club has no commercial accumen Wrong. I've said many times that the club should have an end of season dinner with the players and if they want to then they could formally hand over the trophy to the player as well. I just disagree that this should be done BEFORE it is announced on the pitch. I've also suggested that people go to the dinner to enjoy a nice meal with the players, hear stories about football from the players and generally have a good night out. I don't believe that anyone actually goes solely to find out who is player of the year. The club itself didn't disagree with that when I put it to them actually. They stated that the only reason it is before the end of the season is because the players are off on their jollies as soon as the season ends so it can't possibly be held three days after the final home game. Perhaps this is why we always have such a **** second half to the season, because we wouldn't be able to compete in the play-offs due to players buggering off on holiday as soon as the final whistle is blown. End of season dinner: Yes Player of the year dinner held before the announcement for the common fan for an award voted for by said common fan: Big no.
Re: Disgusting It matters to a lot of people. Oakwell used to be packed early for the final home game and I know people would go up to their seats to hear the announcement. Since they moved it to an exclusive dinner that ended and the presentation on the pitch is held in front of an empty stadium with people turning up 20 minutes later after getting pissed in the pub.
Re: Wait a minute, you're the first to say the club has no commercial accumen Yes seems weird our club are basically admiting players pre book holidays for as soon the season ends even though delaying for a few days won't make a difference and we could be in the play offs.
Re: Disgusting Fair enough, not something that really bothers me but I suppose it's different strokes for different folks.
Re: Disgusting Not like we make any money from people being in the ground early as all the catering is outsourced anyway!
We don't make any money But I never thought that everything a football club does should be about making money. It should be about good will and a sense that we're all in it together. I always used to get there early for the last game of the season. I used to care about the player of the year and I liked to be there to applaud them. It meant something to me because the club meant something to me. Stuff like that meant I was more likely to buy my season ticket and spend money on something I felt involved in. But they've ****** it up like they've ****** everything up. I don't suppose it really matters, it's only a football club. Why should we care, they obviously don't.
Re: We don't make any money But if we made a bit more money then we wouldn't be in the same position season after season aiming for survival. If we had a bit of money, we might be able to invest it into the squad and keep our better played. Surely the whole point of a football club is to progress and get as high as possible, I know I'd certainly feel more in touch with the club if we were progressing. Not saying it's everything but money certainly helps. We need to start maximising our resources, and until we do that we will continue to fall further and further behind. I'm starting to become sick of the 'no money' tag when we don't do nearly enough to make money. Sorry if I've gone off on a tangent there, but if enough people care about the Player Of The Year situation the club should be onto it and changing it as soon as possible. Seems unlikely though as the board seems a million miles away from it's customers at the minute.
Re: We don't make any money There'd still be a poty dinner if it was announced at the last home game. This is just one of the things that has disconnected the club from most fans.
Re: We don't make any money Fans should all vote with their feet by turning up at 2:55 so when the POTY award is announced pre match that everyone already knows the winner of, it will be to two and a half empty home ends.
