...I know it's probably only me but his 'realism' makes me feel like slashing my wrists. How about mixing it with a bit of hope? What about some optimism? Is there any reason for positivity?. The best we can apparently hope for is that we develop the likes of Digby and can then flog him. I know this is 'reality' but I just wish the manager wouldn't say it when I'm struggling to think of good reasons to visit Oakwell with my credit card to spend in excess of a grand other than, according to Hill, that I should feel priveliged to be watching Championship football - even if it is 'Mission Impossible'. I'm pleased he's not the PR guy for our company.
Digby, Rose, Taylor etc...with the current board l'm actually already worried about this crop of youngsters being flogged off for peanuts in the future, thats if they do actually go on to achieve things. We've already started the process with short contract offers....
Comments like this off Don Rowing pi55 me off as well.. Just lets the world know how easy it is to skank the reds!!!!! "The fee of £500,000 was as high as West Ham were prepared to pay so it left us with little option but to sell.”
Aye, on whose word Don? Theirs? What did the discussion go like? Brady: Don, £500k for Vaz Te Don: Yes ok. After all, you won't pay any more than that will you? Brady: Oh no Don. (Chuckles)
More like: Brady: we offer three quarters of a million for vaz Don: no well take 500k and we'll drive him down Brady: er deal
Probably reight. All that mattered to the Don was £500k makes it job done from his point of view. I can understand that. It will be interesting to see the financial results for this season as the profit is presumambly going to be a large one if we take the three large transfers into account this season (Shackell, Vaz Te, Butterfield) If not, the situation is more dire than we can imagine. Let's bang the prices up.
If it was extracted from his interview that is on 'Player' Then the 'mission impossible' statement is in the context that someone said to him at the start of this season that keeping us in The Championship on the budget they had could be seen as 'mission impossible' - Hill then went on to talk about the clubs coming down from the Prem and the financial clout of those coming up from league 1 and asked 'when does mission impossible become mission improbable' The mentioning of Digby imho was a nod upstairs to 2D Don that if we are to survive on our income then it has to be boosted by getting better money for our outgoing players, and he mentioned contract length in relation to that. Hill was being honest and sending a warning upstairs that to carry on as we are letting players go on the cheap given current market conditions then his job will get more and more difficult - whether that is what the public want to hear is another thing - whatever is happening behind the scenes at oakwell it needs managing so much better that the impression given outwards is a positive (if tempered by reality) one. Most reds fans with a brain cell know that we are skint and it'll be difficult, but ffs let's have more fighting talk rather than the white flag being run up - because ST income will drop this summer unless something radical happens.
He's successfully lowered my expectations To the point where I agree with him that it's nigh on impossible for us to stay up next season with him at the managerial helm and the appalling squad of players that he has assembled. Consequently next season will be the first in 27 years where I'm not the owner of a season ticket. Congratulations Keith, mission accomplished.
Re: He's successfully lowered my expectations To be fair given the messages from Depressionwell we may as well ask to kick off in league 1 next season and save us all some hassle. The management of BFC as an organisation generally is a fcking joke.
Re: If it was extracted from his interview that is on 'Player' Spot On, all we seem to get is white flag talk.
Re: If it was extracted from his interview that is on 'Player' Yes most fans know we are skint, but since he joined us Keith hasn't stopped repeating that same old point over and over again. When you've heard one Keith Hill interview you've heard them all. He's like a broken record and a terrible spokesperson for our club.
Re: If it was extracted from his interview that is on 'Player' It's high time rowing and keefy just left the club..::. Both useless
Re: He's successfully lowered my expectations Hill started off the season quite well. we were getting complimentary comments from other clubs even flirting with playoff positions. Then at the beginning of the year he had the rug pulled from under him. The players that were out of the equation were replaced with lesser players causing the drop off in form. In my opinion it was the decent spell that make people still believe in him. He is capable of putting a decent team together providing the Don can desist from his double discount sales. One comment i remember Hill saying is that "Alex Ferguson battens down the hatch in the January transfer window" I recon this may be one of the things Hill has learned while at oakwell. So i am hoping Hill can start next season as he had started this then if we get to 50 points we maybe allow Don to have a little bit of a sale. (not double discount)
Re: He's successfully lowered my expectations So if I understand, you appear to be endorsing the approach of the last couple of seasons - have a decent first half of the season, sell whatever assets you can in January, and then hope for the best. Hammill last January, Vaz Te this (and Butterfield if he'd not been crocked). Except we get better fees. Hardly an approach likely to stimulate massive interest is it? Unless they start doing half season tickets that start in August.
Re: He's successfully lowered my expectations No No No. I stated Hill might have learned from Ferguson and Not sell in January
