A friend of mine has been a season ticket holder with the San Francisco 49ers for 41 years. His seats are on the first level, in the corner. Not great, but he likes them.

For those of you who follow the NFL, you may know that the 49ers are leaving San Francisco and moving about 30 miles down the Peninsula to Santa Clara.

For all the support he has shown the team through thick-and-thin, he has been told that if he wants to renew in the new stadium, he will have to pay a one-off seat license fee of $80,000. Then it will be $3,000 for a ticket for the first season, which is 2 pre-season games and 8 regular games. Post season games are extra.

He has 6 tickets, so that will be $498,000 to take his family for the season.

I think he will be watching on TV from now one.

Just think what the tickets on the 50-yard line go for!

I have to go now, as I’m off to watch Coldplay at the HP Pavilion in San Jose.

And having looked at their website, they're sold out for the season! Single match tickets come in at a whopping $350 a whack. Is this usual for over there? How much do basketball, caseball and hockey cost in comparison?

Something doesn't sound right there. I've been to games - $70 for a ticket. Not checked 49ers though

Baseball varies but if you get a bleachers seat, worse seats, they can be as low as $15. I've usually paid about $30 for one high up behind home plate

On he other hand if you do watch your team on TV you don't have to fork out because it's on network TV not subscription satellite.

All about supply and demand. They can get away with it because the team has become successful once more and the ground will still sell out.
