I see what you are saying but Lampard has virtually always failed to deliver for England. I'd be happy to move on from both of them now. I think or rather hope that Hodgson will pick a team based on form and to fit to a plan/team structure rather than profiles that I think Redknapp would stick with.

Top and bottom of it though is that there aren't enough good English players, certainly not in the Premier League where only 1/3 on duty are eligible.

I would have gone after Mourinho, or maybe Hiddink. But of the English managers, Roy is the best man for the job. About time we appointed a guy with international management experience, and tournament experience.
I just hope he clears out the dead wood

    Re: I like both men

Do you believe it's possible for us to play good football though? Technically we are a long way off teams like Spain and Germany, and my opinion is that we just aren't good enough to try and pass it against them. I'm much prefer to play long ball and win 1-0 like Chelsea vs Barca than play pretty football and get beaten. Results is the only thing I care about with England at the minute.

Genuine question btw, not saying you're wrong.

Bit like those tactics at WBA and fulham? Controlling the egos will be his hardest job

I suspect the "supporters favourite" means a straw poll of TalkSport listeners.

Exactly. Harry was the choice of the media not the fans choice. It seems to me that the majority of fans think the FA have got it right this time.

I think with Harry at the helm we would have tried to outplay teams like Spain, Holland and Germany and they would have torn us apart. Roy understands the international game and knows how to play football that suits the players he has. People keep saying he is good at getting poor to average teams and players playing well which is just what the England players are.

and Jack Wilshire if ever fit. No Gerrard, Walcott ?

there's enough potential amongst the young players to play most of them mixed with a few old heads. Unfortunately the premier league don't have any interest in the national side so I don't see the possibility of success.
