They'll survive the winter with a bit of protection but not out in the sticks. The Green Cordylines are more hardy, the rains setting all the plants back. I've took up gardening because the football became that **** towards the end of the season.

    Thanks for all the replies.

I'll discuss the ale recommendations with the regulars and see what they think would go down well.

That Jaipur is a bit meaty at 5.9% innit!

You aren't still running it under Punch are you? Had a mate who had a punch tavern pub, he packed in after 2 years, said he was barely making a living with the charges from Punch. If he'd been able to buy direct from a brewery he could have got the ale in at almost half the cost.

Ahh sorry about that, let me know next time you are over and I will ensure a reservation at either of the pubs. We are busy at peak times but I'll sort something with a few days notice. Thanks for the ale recommendations.

Not anymore mate, we sold it a few years ago. Somebody came with a big van full of ££££££££££ and we couldn't resist.

It was just before the smoking ban came in and we were very worried about the implications for the Club/VIP area on the first floor. Once they had gone down 4 flights of stairs for a ***, we thought they might never go back up. A few weeks later the new owners phoned me to ask if we'd got any solutions to the impending ban..... ermmm no, we decided to sell it, was the jist of my reply.

Happy days tho, loved building that place and operating it for a couple of years, lots of hard work, great fun and a big pay-off at the end. How business should be.

Went in a few times and never had a bad do. Topping bar, you did well there. (Trying to not sound patronising)

    Hi Border Terrier,

For guest beers, you'll not go far wrong with just about any Badger beer and/or Wychwood.

My favourite is Badger Golden Champion.

    Re: Looks worth a punt

cheers mate, glad you liked it; it's something I still feel pride for, as I think it was a cracking venue of it's time.

Cotton Factory Operations Manager is now a Regional Manager for Marstons so she's done well, and house DJ Martin Doorly is now all over the world with Ibiza Rocks etc. Bongo Dave, is still Bongo Dave.

I must be growing older fast .... totty venues --> dining pubs --> retirement homes --> funeral parlours no doubt! Ah well, keep chasing the dream of buying BFC one day, I can see it now "Former BBS idiot and Funeral Parlour Billionaire, Border Terrier, 89, has today paid £1 for Blue Square Conference North side Barnsley FC. In the deal BT has agreed to take on the club's £250m debt as he's daft as a brush. Press Association."

    Re: Looks worth a punt

They can sell the club to me for £1 and I'll guarantee the overdraft.......

Money in dining boozers then ? I may have to diversify....

I like Jaipur and it is a very popular beer, but, as you say, it's strong. Of the Thornbridge brews I prefer Lord Marples (a bitter) and Wild Swan (a blonde beer)
