Says in the chronicle he rejected a new two year deal. Why are we only offering him a two year deal?? Whoever is in charge if contract negotiations at oakwell is a mug.

So you think he is more likely to sign a three year deal?

He wasnt likely to sign a two year deal but atleast we could show some intent to tie down our morw valuable assets rather than getting are selves sexually violated by other clubs when it comes to transfer fees. saying this we should have signed butterfield up to a long term contract last sumner but hind sights a wonderful thing.

no agent is going to let there client sign a deal longer then 12/24 months on the money we are willing to pay, they'll have offered him a contract just on the off chance that he wants to play football rather then sit on a bench on a big wedge, it turns out he'd rather have money then football the club can't be blamed for that, blame the people that don't turn up to oakwell every week, there the reason we can't offer players 5 year deals worth signing

Probably not but if he's rated as highly as we make him out to be, wouldn't it make sense to offer him a three year contract? Then when he turns it down we can say if it goes to a tribunal "we offered him a three year contract" which would get us a bit more cash than saying "we offered him a two year contract".

Re: Probably just a ploy to get

I reckon the ideal scenario is that he goes to Newcastle, we get £2m at the tribunal and they then loan him back to us for a season to recover from his injury and continue his excellent progress in the first half of last season.

Having guided us to the play-offs, where a rejuvinated Chris Dagnall scores an injury time winner against Leeds, he then returns to Newcastle to take Cabaye's place (who has been signed by big spedning PSG). Butterfield proves to be the missing link in the geordies attempts to break in to the top four and makes Roy Hodgson's 2014 World Cup squad.

After a stunning tournament he scores the winning goal in the final in Rio for the 2012 European champions, triggering a £20m 'World Cup winner clause' inserted at the tribunal following Don Rowing's request.
