is that the weakest set of strikers we've took to a major competition?

At least all 4 should get a game. We took 4 to Germany but one Walcott went for the work experience, and Rooney was not fit.

    NO
Manu regular in welbeck before 30 million pound man and the stand out striker in the prem last season.
    Rooney
carroll, who looked unplayable against chelaea and defoe who can score goals.
Walcott whos a pacey player and could add something different.

For sure its not the Strongest

Rooney the only proper international class striker of that group and he cant play until the 3rd game because he is a complete *****

Could easily be relying on Walcott for a few goals - at least he should be going this time

Generally I dont really know what else Roy could have done though - you can argue Holt, Crouch and Sturridge (personally I would have taken Crouch and Sturridge for Carrol and Wellbeck) but none are anywhere near good enough to be first choice

A fit Defoe is a decent pick though

There are other players I would have taken but most are not stand out replacements the only really really baffling one is Downing - wtf as others have said there are a whole host of players who should go before him no idea what Roy was on when he came up with that one

Re: For sure its not the Strongest

the main point is that there isnt an abundance of talent out there to choose from, whichever strikers we picked that was always going to be our weak point. Gone are the days of Shearer, Sherringham, Fowler, Owen, Cole all at the top of the goalscoring charts we now have Aguero, Van Persie, Cisse etc all foreigners

thats the problem my friend, the premiership is full of foreigners,,,we will never produce a world class team untill something is done about it..
maybe they should change the rules and let them play for they country they are actually playing in,we'd be bleedin world beaters then....lets be honest if your grandads greatgrandfather's dad was from a.n.other country you are able to be selected to play for them......are we sure van persies greatgrandad wasnt from jump or elsecar i'm sure he worked in the packhole at cortonwood..
however some foreigners have their qualities,,,,,kebabs, rogan josh,so on the whole things arnt that bad.

Surely most of the top leagues are full of players from overseas - so why does that make their national teams better

Germany... 66% qualify for the national team.
Spain .. 75% qualify for the national team
Holland... Their top players tend to play in the big leagues.
England. 33% qualify for the national team....

Re: For sure its not the Strongest

Its a difficult problem - the money in the English game is disproportionately high very few English players could get more by going abroad - Maybe Rooney, Hart and possibly Parker thats about it

Also the influx of foreign players strangles our own players development

and also there is the language problem - hardly any English players are good at foreign languages - a lot of foreign players speak some english.

It would be great if we could find a way to limit foreign players to 2 or 3 per side but the EU and sky money will make sure that doesnt happen
