Football League attendances increase for the eighth consecutive season while Oakwell sees a fall of almost 13%. Well done to all concerned.
Source? And is this an average attendance increase across the league? If so, as discussed the other day the Championship has seen teams with larger attendances enter the division this season that those that left. For a fair comparison you need to look at each inidivual clubs change in attendance. That is not to say there aren't issues of the club's own creation, but it needs to be considered in the right context
This is across the three divisions as a whole so West Ham replacing Norwich or Blackpool replacing QPR won't have made much difference. If the league as a whole and a club like Middlesborough can increase attendances during these harsh economic times, then it's very worrying that we are seeing such a massive fall. Maybe it's just me that thinks it's a problem.
I agree with you. This Categorising games business was a PR disaster. No team in this division is worth paying £30 to watch. Also, not a single initiative to try and get a decent crowd down. Other teams have at least one game where you can get in for £5 or kids are free. We've even done it ourselves with great success. This year there was a voucher in the Chronicle for a few bob off.
I see it as a massive problem, and indicative of the feeling of disillusion that has hit our fan base. Only the club can change it, but unfortunately I can only see it getting worse.
Right, I’ve looked at the attendances for all 18 teams who were in the Championship in the last two seasons. 14 of the 18 teams average attendance has dropped from 2010/11. The 4 teams that have increased are Derby (+0.5%), Middlesborough (+7%), Portsmouth (+4%) and Reading (+8%). Of these Reading were promoted and Portsmouth ran huge fan campaigns on the back of going in to administration (although I accept these are subjective points). Of the 4 Yorkshire teams, Leeds, Hull and Barnsley’s average attendances dropped by 13%, Doncaster by 9%. Other than Leicester City (-14%), Yorkshire clubs had the 4 greatest drops in average attendance. I accept it is worrying, and the club have added to the problems affecting all clubs with numerous mistakes as identified elsewhere, but to say BFC are ‘bucking the trend’ with a drop in average attendance is clearly not true.
Of the three teams with a decrease greater than ours, two had been relegated and the other have Ken Bates in charge. Our decrease was at least double most teams in the division. It was nearly 50% higher than Donny's and they were chuffin' relegated.
too much negativity from the club and p iss poor performances,it dunt take a genius to work out why the crowds have declined.....we all know that the havnt got the money and backing some clubs have but we dont need it ramming down our throats in every single interview... every game last season the ponty was chanting 'robins give us a wave'',you can count on one hand how many times its happened this season....while they are doing naff all this summer the managment should go and have some pr lessons...
Disagree massively. Every game i've been to there has always been 'Keith Hill's red and white army', which I think after the current run of form is just short of a miracle. I believe the majority of fans still back Hill and what he's trying to achieve.
when was ''keith hills red and white army'' the same as ''keith hill give us a wave''?????????????????????????/
Well by that i just assumed you meant support for the manager, not just the crowd's willing to see a wave.
I don't get your point here? Any sort of positive chanting of Keith Hill is surely a show of support? If you are critical of song choice you should sit next to Louis Walsh on a Saturday evening.
Maybe we should appoint the queen as manager. She does a lot of waving. Or a Mexican manager. Them boys have even got a wave named after them.
