What about some players taking the blame.Vaz Te for instance what can the club do when a player makes it clear that he wants out in the summer,do we keep him and lose him for nothing or do we take the best offer available.West Ham knew the situation and after refusing there first bid of around £300k they came back in with a £500k take it or leave it offer. They had no need to insert a promotion clause and we were in no situation to ask for one because they would have pulled the plug on the deal we then have an unhappy player who leaves for nothing in the summer.Unfortunately Barnsley had to do the best for the club as a whole.

When Hammall signed it was well documented that unless the £500k clause wasn't inserted he would go to Leeds.Better to have had him than not at all and again the player is in control.

Patrick Cryne said he could see the disappointment in Simon Daveys eyes when Brian Howard turned down there contract offer, again the player is in control of the situation.

So to sum up by and by the players and agents hold all the aces. The club have made errors in the past like any other club but there not always to blame.

Nearly forgot, the Shackall transfer could have been handled different in my opinion he signed a contact for two years we made him captain and at the first chance he wanted out.Because he was still under contract we should have used more bargaining power.

To be fair, we handled the Howard situation terribly. The lesson we need to learn is not to let contracts run down. Vaz Te is an exception, but Howard & Hammill could & should've had contracts put in front of 'em 12 months before we sold 'em.

Just like Luke Steele should have.

Howard said he wanted to sign and then he said he didnt.

Always seemed it was the brian howard for me.
Didnt charlton want him and he turned it down even though barnsley would have got more money to join beattie at sheffield.

Sorry Dyson i have to disagree, the club did little wrong.

We held all the aces with vaz te, we got him for nowt, paid him peanuts compared to some at oakwell so i would have held on to him unless we recieved a stupid offer and 500k wasnt stupid enough in my opinion. if vaz te had moaned i would have chucked him in the reserves!

Forgive me if I don't "believe" Cryne when he talks about Brian Howard.

you are never ever going to get it right on here.

Mainly because of the polarised views it is predominantly divided into two camps either the ones where the clubs always wrong or the ones who seem to be on commision from the club who try to excuse every **** up. Until people realise there are rights AND wrongs its just going to go on and on and on

The irony now of Howard contacting the club asking to play for pittance next season, and finding himself in League 1.

    Along with Bogdanovic no doubt.

How do we know Vaz would have been unhappy just because he would have had to wait for a few extra months to leave the club that got his career back on track? Also lets just say he would have been unhappy do you think he'd have stopped trying for us and got monk on and started playing crap? He wouldn't have.

I would have preferred to have had a 20 goals plus striker this season and seen him possibly move for free in the summer than have had to put up with that 2nd half of the season display. At Oakwell, 20 goals a season strikers come around every 10-15 years.

It's a game of bluff and counter bluff. Allerdyce has gone on record as saying Vaz te was his best ever signing and he cost peanuts for a 24-goal a season striker. We just didn't have the bottle to ask for more or call his bluff. All this West Ham said take it or leave it is ********. I'm sure if the Don had thought about a sell on clause or a promotion clause, Big Sam would have accepted it. Win Win situation for him. Promotion and they gain £120 million and give little old Barnsley an extra £1 million. Miss out and he costs nowt extra.
