For £335 I can buy a season ticket and feel obliged to attend all 23 matches no matter how desperate it gets towards the back end of the season; or for £328 I can pick 13 games to go to. Hmmm.
Re: Dial Emma The problem is Emma is dispassionate and can see Blindman and McNumpty for what they really are; I on the otherhand am a long standing fan who is somewhat disillusioned at the moment but is in the habit of going to The Well whenever there's a match on.
Re: Dial Emma Not everyones circumstances are the same though and some people have legimate cause for complaint. I would think the club would be taking all on board and finding ways to accommodate and please as many fans as possible. Personally I can see some improvement on accessibilty and ST holders being able to get a ticket for a friend (would rather it were 2) at reduced rate. One offs could not get the price reduction. Pricing is a different matter, on Matchday tickets, I`m in the `there 2 high bracket'.
Which 13 would u pick? Let's say you go for Owls. Blunts or Hudds Leeds Blackburn Bolton Wolves Derby Forest Leicester Birmingham Blackpool Charlton Cardiff What do you do when over Easter we have a relegation 6 pointer against say Peterborough? Pay the extra? Get the ST and give the tickets you don't want to London Tykes/ noisy neighbours(!) in return for beers*. Obviously I know that tickets are not transferable etc. *Assumes there are still people out there with an interest.
I agree... ... match day tickets are too high, however, they are that high simply to fleece away supporters, not to encourage previous Barnsley fans to return (even with the members discount). I think it's inevitable that we will go down and consequently crowds will be reduced even further this year (whatever the entrance price); only by winning games on a regular basis will crowds improve, and we will probably have to be in division 3 for this happen. I also believe that this is the board's opinion too - live within our means, and accept that this is likely to mean division 3 football most of the time.
Re: Which 13 would u pick? I'll pick the 13 matches left once Keith Hill has been sacked. No seriously, it's the thought of feeling obliged to go to all the matches if I get a season ticket simply because I've paid for it (I am "Yorkshire" after all), whereas if I pick and choose, when it starts to get bad, I'll simply stop going and not feel I've wasted my time and money.
I'm not planning on going to 13 games; it's just that 13 games will cost a similar amount. In fact, having not yet recovered from last season's spectacular demise since February, I might only choose 3 games to go to; The Pigs, White *****, and Huddersfield - just incase we get a result.
Re: I agree... Not just to fleece away supporters though is it really if you see £25 as too high? It`s nowt to do with encouraging fans to return, agreed. The wage bill needs squeezing and relegation is one way of doing it and may make us more competitive to bring fans back but has to be balanced against revenue losses from other sources.
Go and watch the home games in 2012 when we get off to a reasonable start. You can ignore the 2013 fixtures when the wheels fall off.
Paul Walker got lambasted for suggesting we should go down to rebuild, and now some of our fans think it would be a good idea. No no no. Would take a very long time to get up again. If we go down we might win 5-10 more games, but don't expect any prices, ST or otherwise, to fall like a stone. Football in L1 is as much of a business as in the Championship plus loss of TV revenue needs to be covered from somewhere. For those who say team x get 12-15,000 ST holders as they only charged about £100, it doesn't take a mathematician to work out we're better charging £300 for 6-7000 ST holders.
Re: I agree... I don't think so in fact I think that they would be petrified by the propsect. We'd have to find an extra £4m(ish) from lost Foobtall League contribution over night. Would imagine that to become a problem without having someone who could bridge the gap financially.
