Gerrard & Parker "Too Tired" To Play Against Sweden

What an embarrassment that two 31 year olds at supposed peak physical fitness can't play two games in five days.

There's a 42 year old bloke doing the Tour de France this which makes a mockery of the situation with these two.

 

Are they definitely out? I heard something on the radio about it this morning. If true then you're right its embarrassing but nothing about our 'superstar' footballers surprises me anymore.

You probably could but I reckon I could trot around a football pitch for 90 minutes more than once a week.

 

If that is true then footballers have reached a whole new level of pamperedness. Set of fookin bumders.

supposing certain players went out against Sweden and by half time had to be subbed, then a couple get injured.That would get people up in arms. I was impressed by the opening game against France,I think Hodgson knows what is best.I agree with you,and also think some are reading too much into that article.

It really winds me up when people criticse footballers for talking about fatigue. If you asked either Gerrard or Parker if they wanted to play against Sweden and I'm 100% confident they would say yes. Nobody is suggesting that footballers have a hard life or work as hard as manual labourers/doctors/firemen/other sportsment etc etc etc

What is being suggested is that after playing a grueling 90 minutes in 30 degrees heat against one of the best teams in the world they might not be as fresh in a game a few days later. We shouldn't have sympathy, we should just accept that it's impossible to ask any sportman to perform at their peak game after game particularly when they the games come thick and fast at such intensity.

It's the managers job to rotate the squad accordingly and rest players where required so that the standard of football is as high as it can be.

We all want England to win this tournament. Maybe we should also acknowledge that the only way for us to do that is to pick fresher players where required and cut players like Parker and Gerrard (who are probably the hardest working players in the squad) a bit of slack.

He said he came on a few years ago at anfield for about 20mibs and he said he was fecked, done, finished.

Both Gerrard and parker could get through 90mins but could they play at the level they will need to?
If they are 90% fit or 85% fit and they go up against players that are 95% fit or 100% fit then we have a problem.
Its all about SQUAD MANAGEMENT, there no point in playing them in to the ground.

a load of blokes riding their bikes about the streets of France, cant think of anything less exciting and engaging. The winner peddles the fastest. Whooooaaaaa. At least with swimming there's budgie smugglers for the women and the synchronised ladies are often perky.

Tha reyt though old ****. Footballers could play 90 minutes every day if you asked them. Though when the squad is decimated due to hamstring pulls, dead legs and cramp and the tempo of play is akin to that of pub football I suspect we'll be keen to revert back to the tried and trusted two games a week.

You could basically make a case for nowt being a sport. Cricket - a game where the spectators burn as much energy as the players. Ditto golf. Athletics - people running and jumping over stuff or throwing stuff. And so on and son.
