promoting watching England tonight in their bar in town etc etc etc. Now normally i just delete such 'spam' but with the state of the service / experience in there these days I decide to reply.... here is thereev's response:-

'Thank you for your email regarding watching the England Sweden match in Walkabout and I will indeed be watching the action in Barnsley town centre. At one time in the not too recent past, it would have been in Barnsley's Walkabout without doubt.

However since the departure of 'Aussie Greg' and quite frankly the hardest working person I have ever come across (Sarah - Gregs girlfriend) back to Austrailia, the place is now appalling to watch sport / football. The reasons you ask?

. Never enough staff on which on a big game is simply a waste of time trying to get served. Surely that loses sales revenue as the staff won't be getting paid that much.
. Never have commentary on some of the matches (unless you constantly ask the staff who always seem to view the customers as a nuisance).
. The staff seem to prefer music playing over the sport on tv (and half the time there are music videos playing on some of the main t.v.'s and not the sport which i find astonishing as Walkabout portray themselves as a sport bar). Maybe it would help if the management / staff were sports fans as they are clearly not in this particular establishment.
. Half the t.v.'s are sometimes blocked by advertisements hanging from the ceiling!
. All the above add up to no atmosphere and disgruntled customers. The place is an absolute shambles these days and i have come to the conclusion the current stewardship have little idea whatsoever.

Anyhow, why I have wasted my time writing this email is a mystery as I tend to vote with my feet these days and watch the sport in nearby Chennells in Barnsley as they have plenty of staff on, actually put the football on without having to be asked and also have the commentary loud enough to be heard without the latest hearing aid.

Just thought I would enlighten you with my thoughts..... I cannot for one minute think I am alone in these views.

    Hope this helps.

Have to agree about them playing music instead of the commentary. Drives me crackers.

The last live match I watched in there was when England played away in Belarus and won 3-1. It was back in 2008 and back then, the atmosphere used to be great, and even though it used to busy, you could always get served in reasonable time, without the hordes around the bar jostling for position and a siege mentality taking over.

    Dear BMBC

If Players want to open a sports bar with birds in hot pants and skimpy vests serving you beer only Hemsy Tyke would like, then please let them.

    Regards

    Gord.

    Did Greggs GF leave?

She was Manager and served me the last time I was there. Sure it was her anyway.

I watched the last game in Hooters in Cancun. Now there’s a better place to watch it.

There is more than one place to watch the games.

I'm going to a town centre pub where there is easy access at the bar - and free snap. #tightarse

I think both their visa's ran out and they had to go home.......... and considering all the foreign wasters we have here who don't work at all, that is a scandal in itself. However thata another debate. This debate is bascically that Walkabout is now she ite!

Last chance I gave Walkabout was final day of Prem.

And they showed Man Utd on the big screen not Man City.

Can't comment on Walkabout as I've never been in, but I complained to Bramah's about their widescreen TV's being incorrectly set and just got fobbed off saying it must be customers messing with them!
Been in Chennels a couple of times and plenty of screens and set up correctly as well which seems to be a rare thing for a pub! Considering they probably have professional installers that's completely inacceptable, then again when the Sky bloke came to put a replacement box in he left that set up incorrectly!
Also they have real ale at a decent price.

I'll still be watching the game at home though in glorious HD with a few beers.

Was Sarah the little blonde lady with the stereotypical Aussie accent? About 5ft 2, size 6-8 and probably no more than eight stone? If so she was a good looking lass and she lead by example. Been served food off her in there many times with a pleasant chat, leading by example as the boss rather than getting one of her employees to do it for her so she can carry on standing about.

They do a good ten quid wristband offer for the England games. You get to queue jump, a seat in a specific area and two free drinks with a list to choose off including pints of Carling. It's worth say four quid extra to queue jump and have a good seat.

    'stereotypical Aussie accent' ?

You mean she was Australian and spoke with an accent.

Thought that was who you was on about. Didn't know she had gone back home. That's a shame. She served as many meals as the waiters/waitresses she hired. As you say she was a top worker.

They should get waitress/waiter staff on when there's games on like this. Go to States and they know how to run a bar when major sports on telly. Service is quick, decent food on, loads of tellies.

That's why Sports Bar in Leeds is great for the SuperBowl. Table service for drinks so you don't have to miss the action, BBQ chicken, couple of complimentary bottles of lager and your own private booth.
