ie a big name player who used to play for big teams but despite still being relatively young has done nothing lately and is looking for a way back into the limelight. Then won't we be doing exactly the same as Donny did last season? A policy which many Barnsley fans and many on here mocked Donny for. Just a thought
aint Mido nicknamed 'the shoe bomber' cos he looked like the actual 'shoe bomber' geezer. at least he aint from rochdale. hth
The difference is that Barnsley hope to gain something from it, ie goals, money and survival. Whereas Donny failed as they didnt get the right men for the job, or mercenaries as some people called them. Diouf only signed for a few months so he could leave in January if he wanted to. Hopefully Mido will sign for a year if he does sign. At least then if he has got the goals and somebody higher up wants him we will get money (ala Vaz Te) or if he stays until the season ends he can help us stay up.
It would be if built a whole team around these sort of players. As it is, it's much more like when we signed Vaz Te, and look how that worked out; he came in and banged in the goals, which made Barnsley fans happy, then left in January, meaning you had something to whinge about. Everyone won.
Donny's plan was purely a money making exercise between Ryan-Saunders-(the agent geezer) to try and rehabilitate down-on-their-luck players in a lower league and sell them on at a profit. Barnsley need these players to keep us safe from relegation and, let's be honest, we aren't that great at selling on at a profit.
There's a big difference between Donny and Barnsley............. .................namely................the KEEFLICKER These guys can pick someone up like Mido and transform them
Re: There's a big difference between Donny and Barnsley............. Like they did with those last season? Smith,Tonge etc. For every one that did there are 4 others that did not work out!
Re: There's a big difference between Donny and Barnsley............. Cotterill, Tonge and even Smith worked to a degree...........but all these were short term loans Longer term loans, and better still, actually signing them, all of these seemed to turn out ok Keeflicker need time with these players to turn their careers round........look what they did for Butters (bit player the season before), Vaz Te, Drinkwater and O'Brien
Not really, it will be like us signing Vaz Te last season. Donny had over half a team of mercenary short team deals and I would be very uncomfortable if we pursued a similar transfer policy. I'm happy with Keef bringing in one or two players in the Mido / Vaz Te mould.
One or two of the Mido type is fine by me. I doubt we plan on going down the Donny route of signing a team of them.
The only problem with that is that I liked Donny's policy. I thought it brought them much needed media attention.
