Just arrived back in Donetsk after a week on the ukrainian seaside which incidentally whacks the ass off skegness. So far everything has been awesome. The locals are incredibly friendly and welcoming, not a hint of bother and some of the local beer is outstanding. The roads and pizzas leave a bit to be desired though. Best moment so far - entering the ground and finding beer on sale for a quid a pint. Worst moment so far -queuing for 40 minutes for said beer and then finding out on arrival at the window that it was non alcoholic. I think I was the only england fan who was aware of this as unless you can read ukrainian you would never have noticed! Reckon the atmosphere will be very tasty tonight though in donetsk a lot of the locals still support russia over ukraine. I just hope that we treat our opposition with a bit more respect than russia did the greeks, otherwise we could get our arses well and truly bitten.

Sounds good! I remember doing the same thing at the first Euro 2004 match I went to. Many England fans also failed to see the no alchohol warning in Portugese on the pumps and were coming away with 3 and 4 pints a piece!

Yep, exactly the same was going on here. People were getting so exited about the cheap "beer"that I didn't have the heart to tell them it wasn't quite what it seemed!

Keep your eyes peeled for huddstyke and the Barnsley FC (old No.7) flag.

Apparently generated loads of interest in the pub

I saw the flag during the France game as I was at the opposite end of the ground. It even got a mention from the announcer before the match.

But did they appear to be getting "pissed" though?

To be fair, with the majority of the england support it would be hard to tell, as most of them seemed like illiterate pond life. Had a great time in the local section of the ground.

Seeing as my wife is with me that's not very likely. Though Donetsk pizzas will quite possibly give you something nasty if you try and eat one. Just had my pre match vodka, setting off now. Come on!

Got back from Ukraine on Sunday after a great trip.

No problems at all, top atmosphere around the fan parks and grounds. "We'll go where we want, we'll go where we want, f u c k you Sol Campbell, we'll go where we want".

12 hour sleeper train from Kiev to Donestsk was a blast, full of England fans partying. Donestsk was a really nice city, lots of gardens, pavement cafes, easy to walk around, friendly locals.

Food was ok if you stuck to pizzas, kebabs, burgers etc, local stuff ropey. Digs were very basic but did a job, a bit like our football team.

A couple of our lads bravely tried the local wine, but we decided it was Chatauex Chernobyl and instead of having a vintage, it had a half-life. Donbass Arena is a breathtaking ground, got a point, and Frogs disgraced themselves by bringing 400 fans. All the Ukrainians & Russkies were supporting us. I bizarrely got interviewed by a local TV crew about the delights of marinated pork shashlik. Odd.

Brand new fast rains back to Kiev, better than our trains in England. Kiev is ok, not alot to do, but the fan fest was brilliant. Was supposed to meet up with the lads with the Old No.7 flag but it was hectic before the Sweden game. Fan Fest full with about 70,000 in it. Beat the Swedes to go alongside my only other Euros trip v Germany (1-0 to us) in Charleroi 2000.

All in all a top time, came back undefeated, met some sound people, had a right laugh, and totally safe. Didn't manage to spend much either as it was so cheap. The ladies by the way, are stunning.
