How do we make a better atmosphere on the road and at home with the reds?

    Any serious suggestions?

Away atmosphere is pretty good but at home hardly anyone joins in the songs.I sit in middle of ponty and me and my mate always try and get people around to join in by actually singing but very rarely does anyone join in!
This topic comes up a lot on here but how many of those that complain about lack of atmosphere actually join in with those trying to get it started??

Singing at Oakwell is frowned upon!

Some away games like Coventry and Burnley last season were awful.

A run of good performances will change the atmosphere. Wins change moods, entice people back to the games and with a few derbies to look forward to again, it should take care of itself.

It would be great to have a massive atmosphere every game, but I dont think that can happen.

Like people say, win games = more people wanting to watch = happier people = more singing.

I think atmosphere is better at away games because the people who go there make the effort to get there, meaning that they'd rather have a laugh and sing to make the most of it.

Away from home, by and large the allocation of seating dictates. If it's unreserved, a bunch go to the top and sing, the rest sit further down. If it's all reserved, everyone is mixed up and there's next to no chance of any atmosphere happening. Most obvious cases of this were a couple of years back, we played Boro and Preston away on Tuesdays about three weeks apart. Similar numbers at both, Preston unreserved, best away atmosphere of season. Boro was reserved, people split up, not one song all night. So, WHERE POSSIBLE, unreserved seating away. This is why Donny is always a poor atmosphere, ditto Forest, whilst less attractive matches at Cov and Preston tend to be better for atmosphere.

At home... who knows? It's partly the team, success will lead to more singing, but also a cultural thing. It takes a few brave people to start songs off, continually. If they are ignored or even discouraged, nothing will follow.

We tend to need some dodgy reffing decision against us to get the crowd going

The Southampton fans were full of praise for the noise we made at St Mary's last season, and that was with only 418 of us in attendance.

Don't think the Yorkshire Ripper song or chants of Scabs.. scabs.. scabs... help the cause.

Yorkshire ripper is possibly thee finest song on this planet. It's a shame no-ones ever released it in charts, think it'd go down a treat. Especially in the west Yorkshire region

Really enjoyed Southapton was a quality day out, other than the apparently un-reserved seats, yet only two stewards said so, but I just ignored 'em. Think I was asked to show my ticket 4 times. I mean fair enough at the World Cup, but a steward asked me if I was going in the right gangway, there was only one open..

    agreed.

i'd join in if we'd sing something that actually got behind the team. at the minute, "come on you reds" is as glamorous as it gets!

If you can tell me how this song does anything to encourage our team then I will sing it.

If you are singing songs to encourage the team, then I join in regardless of who are around me.

Let's have songs to encourage the team, to show them we are behind them.
