We'd have been better off with Pirlo vs Perkins.

While I'm on, Rooney was ****ing useless. Ashley Young was hiding the entire game and as for Milner - why? Just why??

Gerrard was lost playing so deep in a 2. Not his fault at all . Need a different formation imo

Agreed on all points. Turned over to watch the ITV highlights in the hope that their pundits are still in the mood to tell it more like it is than the usual BBC lackeys do. Had to smile at the irony of that Pot Noodle W.A.G. advert being on during the ad break, examplifying (in a jokey way obviously) in it's own way all that is wrong with the top of the English game.

Gerrard had no influence at all tonight but he was too deep because he has no quality around him. And Lampard is not the answer.

Was agreeing with Conan by the way rather than those using the age-old 'wrong formation' excuse to apologise for the abjectness of a players' performance. No formation makes a player unable to pass or control/keep the ball. Aside from the defence (and Carroll for his efforts off the bench) not one of them deserves any particular credit after that performance - once again too many of our so-called Premier League superstars have gone missing when it actually counts, against a really mediocre Italy side to boot. Dreadful.

Not fit to lace his boots. He could run further though.

    Different player entirely.

Played every minute of the tournament despite him not being a cyclist, though.

Not his fault tonight let down by many of his mates, Ashley Young was a nonentity for the entire game Rooney was poor,Walcott came on and I presume sneaked off again somewhere?(can't be arsed naming them all) IMHO Gerrard couldn't get forward because he was playing deep to start with and the majority of the time we couldn't stick 3 passes together and so had lost it by the time he was moving forward

They are different players I'll agree on that. One is the main man who controls the game while
the other is supposed to do this but never does.

Well done for being fit enough to play four games in two weeks though.

Difference is Pirlo wasn't carrying Scott Parker.

Why are people in the media saying Rooney wasn't fit? he finished the prem season, he only missed 2 games through suspension and trained like the rest of them. He wasn't unfit, he was ****.

Apparently not. Pirlo even did more running.

Gerrard is a different player to Pirlo. Gerrard flourishes when playing alongside a Pirlo style player, just as he did when playing alongside Xabi Alonso for Liverpool. The problem is we don't appreciate Pirlo style players in England, hence why everyone says Michael Carrick is **** when Man U hadn't won anything for several years before he arrived. Or the dog's abuse Modric was getting on here the other day. And before someone goes mental, I did say 'Pirlo-style players', he is obviously a better version that what we have.

We have a player with the same talent and age as Pirlo.

    Paul Scholes.
