    Tour de France starts this Saturday. Come on Bradley Wiggins and Mark Cavendish.

    Yellow and green jersies both coming back to England.

    I thought Cavendish was from the Isle of Man and that Wiggins was from N Ireland? Might be wrong though.

    Would you not be better betting on Wiggins to win Sports Personality of the Year? He's less than 2s to win the tour, but 6s to win SPOTY

    I believe Wiggins was born in Ghent to an English mum/Australian dad, but was raised in London and now lives in the northwest. Being the first British rider to wear the yellow jersey (hope he does, but it is a long race and anything can happen) would probably not do as much for his SPOTY chances as winning the Time Trial at the Olympics. It is very possible he could win both, which should give him SPOTY.

    Cavendish is IOM, but his mum is from Yorkshire.

    A few English cyclists have worn the yellow jersey, Tom Simpson, Millar, Chris Boardman, , Sean yates......none have won the tour overall though, would be superb if BW won and Cav defended his green jersey, roll on Saturday, the last week has been hell with no cycling on the telly since the tour of Switzerland finished...

    Obviously I meant wear the yellow jersey at the end of the tour - to win it or even to podium would be a fantastic success for Wiggins. Team Sky were looking really strong at the Criterium Du Dauphine. It looks like Cavendish might have a challenge for the green though - he has concentrated on endurance to target the road race gold at the Olympics so lost some of the top end speed.

    Has Cavendish worn yellow?

    No, Cav never worn yellow, last Brit was

    David Millar in 2000, Boardman has worn yellow in 4 tours, Bradley more chance of wearing it than Cav, Cav not too hot in prologues and stage 1 in belgium is a bit lumpy, stage 2 should be a sprint finish though

    Unlikely that Cavendish will wear yellow even on the second or third day, but of course that's not what he's really about.

    Who do we think will be the main challenger to Wiggins?? A lot of the GC riders aren't great at the TT and are mainly moutaineers (Nibali, Van den Broucke (sp), Samuel Sanchez, Frank Schleck, Rolland) and the ones who are good at both are a bit old (Evans, Kloden, Vino) so I would be pushed to say who might challenge him.

    What about Janez Brajkovic as an outside bet??

    Leipheimer was much fancied early on in the season but has had a series of crashes, Menchov (age might be against him), Sanchez, Gesink et al have all been mentioned by the cycling press as contendors, also VanDen Broek was 4th last year but to me Wiggo and Evans have been the guys in form, plenty of TT also this year, heres hoping, it would be abs fantastic if Bradley could win...

    Brajkovic is a good call as a contender, but with no Contador or A Schleck the other challengers look a little light. Frank Schleck and Ryder Hesjedal will probably be too tired after the Giro. Someone will be a surprise like Voeckler last year.

    Sagan will put up a good challenge for green this year.
