Hopefully the lad will make his mark this season

He seems to have been around for quite some time, but he's still only 18. It really astonishes me that we have fans willing to write off the careers of the kids from the Academy so quickly before they've played twenty games. It's probably a good thing Jordan Rhodes followed his Dad down to Ipswich. Had he not been banging in the goals as soon as he got in our first team, he'd have been slated as not up to the job.

I wouldn't write him off, but you know that saying about a good big un will always beat a good little un? Well it's never been truer than in English football today. As we've seen with the England team, the prime requirement is to have the ability to run about a lot, put lots of effort in, win headers and tackles and follow instructions. Ball skills, ingenuity, vision and free thinking are only secondary and in many cases are not needed at all. Physically comparing Reuben against the people he lined up against last season, it would seem that he is going to have to be exceptional to stand a chance of becoming a first team regular.

I agree with you, old mate

Give me a Ronnie Glavin over a Billy Ronson any day. I appreciate any team requires artisans in the line up, but there should always be a place for the artists, too. It appears more and more people are wanting to follow and appreciate the Stoke Citys of this world rather than the Swansea Citys. I hope the likes of RNL, Rose & Clark can buck this trend to admire power over flair.

I get your point but JR is a bad example. we was scoring 40+ goals in Ipswich academy and reserves. Ipswich fans were going mad when keane sold him.

He scored one goal in ten appearances for Ipswich

Listening to the criticisms that RNL & Rose have had, Rhodes would've been no different had he stayed here with that scoring record.

If you mean big'un in terms of strength then can i ask you the last time you saw him because hes bulked up a lot and looks to be a very strong lad.

My guess would be he's spent a lot of time in the gym on a program.
He's also not the smallest player in terms of height, maybe around 5'10ish will make him a similar size to Mr Butterfield and Mr clark and rose.

Just had a look on website and it says he's 5'11 and 13 stone 8 pound.

So according to that he weights more than Stephan Foster and that will be down to muscle mass.

He doesn't normally do interviews, last thing i can remember him doing was something for program and that was September/ October.

I hear what you are saying, but players aren't always the best judge of where they are going to be most effective. He may very well PREFER to play there, but it is the managers job to determine what is best for the future.

For all the RNL knockers/doubters on here - who would you rather see given a proper run in the first team?
    Reubs, or Chris Dagnall?

The lad has not had the benefit of a proper sustained run in the first team. Neither have Rose, Clark, Stones or Digby for that matter. Instead we saw the likes of Dagnall, Nouble, Smith and Higginbotham.

But in their games, did they do much to prove their ability? I remember Smith doing well on debut. The rest were pants IMO. No goals, not even an assist.

Reuben has appeared in about 5 games in the last 2 seasons, scoring a match-winning goal and making 2 others...

But yeah, he's not going to make it...

Not many on here rated Butterfield until last year, when he was given an extended run of games.
I'm not saying RNL will be of a similar standard given that run, but I'd rather he got the opportunity than a Dagnall.

But Keith is boss, and I can't see Reubs making it. Not at Oakwell anyway.

Because when anyone asks you to back up your claims, you ignore them.

    Ironic.
