I don't think so, no matter what they have won Hemsy....

People say Ashley Cole is the best left back in the world, l'd rather have Lahm, Rooney up front? l think there's 4/5 strikers in front of him, Gerrard in midfield? wouldn't get in the Barca midfield...

    Discuss.

I wouldn't put Rooney even in the top 5 strikers. Would any England players be in a world 11? No. There wouldn't be any in World squad of 23.

No I don't think we have any genuine world class players. People will argue for Gerrard but like you say he wouldn't get in Barca's midfield or Spains so IMO that rules him out.

And not very good ones at that... we looked knackered at the end of the Italy game....and even before the Sweden we were told they were exhausted..

I'd say Hart is world class.

I thought about Hart, possibly in the future but there's a few keepers in front of him. Been impressed with Portugals keeper at the Euro's.

    If they were

They'd be at Barca or Madrid.

The lack of interest in English players by top European clubs is telling.

Ashley Cole's the best English player currently imho.

    Re: If they were

Not necessarily at Barca or Madrid, but you could also include sides like AC or Bayern as well. If playing for or being coveted by European clubs is an indication of world class then you are looking at Beckham being the last one - along with Joe Cole and Owen Hargreaves (who can't even get in the England squad now).

    Re: If they were

I was just going on where the money is at present - AC Milan in the late 80's/90's where THE European club to play for, and still I imagine have quite some drawing power for foreign players.

Yup, for all the stick he got, Beckham's the only one in recent years.

Watched Spain last night - yes they murdered the game (up to the last 10 minutes of extra time for some reason) but when they passed themselves out of trouble from the edge of their area it showed a composure on the ball and intelligent movement way beyond the scope of most Englsih players currently.

For me Ashley Cole is world class, he's got everything. Joe Hart will be but just lacks behind Casillas et al at the minute, Hart and Neuer will be the top keepers in the future I reckon.

Been thinking about this and Rooney wouldn't even be in my top 10 strikers. Maybe top 20.

My current world 11, off the top of my head, probably missed a few...

    GK Buffon
    RB Alves
    LB Lahm
    CB Puyol
    CB Ramos/Pique
    MF Iniesta
    MF Xavi
    MF Alonso
    MF Ribery
    FW Ronaldo
    FW Messi

Subs from.. Gomez, Schweinsteiger, (sp) Pique/Ramos, Cole, Hulk, Casillas

A bit biased towards European based players as l haven't seen much of world football since the last world cup. Can't think of any more Argentina, Brazilian players etc that could break into that 11, maybe players like Hulk will become more noticeable after the Brazil world cup and l'm sure Brazil will have a superstar 17/18 year old breaking through.

Did you miss the bit where he said it was HIS 11. Not yours, HIS. Just give yours if you must and then STFU. Why are you mentioning a cricketer from the 80's?

I think Rooney may be one of the most over-rated players we've had.

Has he ever delivered for England when it really matters?

There's a simple and telling answer to that question.

I think the best player we have is Hart, but he's not the best in the world yet.

    He may mean Lahm...

Why would Neymar make a current world 11? He's not even played 20 times for his country yet, l don't think he's ever been to a world cup, so yes Ribery every time at the minute. Maybe Neymar in 2014, or he could go the way of Robinho.
