Going to a tribunal would probably be much worse for Barnsley than us, so unless our offer really is poor they're taking a massive gamble by doing this.

Take into account the changes recently to youth, the elite system etc and I can't see them getting a massive fee for him, especially on the back of relatively limited playing time and after a long term injury.

Sounds more like a desperate gamble on their part as they know full well the guy is leaving, they just wanted more money when it happened and I can't blame them for this, but it is a bit naive tbh.

    *from their forum, Pink'Un.

Think he makes a good point. But surely The Don isn't naive???

The Don's been on Soccerbase focusing his attentions on recently sold Leeds United midfielders.

    Thats rot.

We've never been greedy in valuing players for starters.

Butterfield was called up by England under 21's and if Norwich want the player, they can't be concerned by the injury. You can't reduce the fee based on the injury when he's had a clean bill of health from the surgeon and nobody knows how its affected him in the short time he's been out (6 months for a cruciate rupture is a very quick turn around and suggests its gone very smoothly).

And changes to academies are irrelevant. The tribunal is there to value the player and give a fair price for the club who've developed them. £2m should be a minimum looking at what Howson went for under the same process.

If BFC have rejected the Norwich bid i'd suggest it was a cheeky bid to try and get a bargain.

I think it's utter, condescending rubbish

The changes to the elite system he's talking about has no relevance to this sort of situation whatsoever. That is based on the movement of Academy players of a certain age to top flight clubs, not established professionals. Basically, he's saying we should accept the derisory offer simply because Norwich are in the Premier League and we are merely Championship. The injury obviously isn't an issue, otherwise they wouldn't be signing him. If he's right, then a tribunal fee will be the same as Norwich's initial offer. I don't believe it will be.

This is Premier League Norwich City. Who sell out their stadium every week, and averaged over 20,000 for the last 10 years.

    They must have some brass.

Yet they want to pay peanuts.

The football world and it's morals are ******.

£2m would be about right, a fair compromise. IMO like.

    Agree BigLil.
IF Norwich try and start with the injury stuff then Barnsley should say, Has he passed a medical? IF the answers yes then they should say, so Jacobs knees fine then. Surgeon AND your medical staff have said the same thing.

I remember reading about Norwich taking Liverpool I think it was, to tribunal over a 17 y/o goalkeeper in January. He didn't have a pro contract at Norwich, hadn't played for the first team, and I think was only capped internationally at schoolboy level, they got £500k for him iirc. Butterfield has played almost 100 senior games for us, scoring 8 goals, captained the academy, reserve and first team, represented his country at under 21 level, and was even considered for the GB Olympic team prior to his injury, surely these things are taken into account before a fee is set?

I also wonder if his lengthy spell on the treatment table is factored in, because their's a real chance he may never get back to the form he was in before he was 'deliberatly assaulted' by Michael "fat dee dah/dirty Leeds *******" Brown.

So do you reckon he's got a career, a future? Or is it just because he's Bryan's son?

Not many offspring of great players go on to do much themselves.

If they go to the tribunal talking about the injury, we should just make the point that they've given him a 4-year deal so they're obviously not too worried about it to make that sort of commitment.
