Barnsley have rejected an offer 'well below' £500k from Norwich. Either clubs will agree a fee or it goes to tribunal.

Which further proves what I said yesterday

deal brokered by Butterfield and his agent, club left with no bargaining position or time to negotiate, tribunal lottery is our only option, which isnt while end of August means no money for Hill to strengthen with.

    Shafted.

Spot on. Thanks for nothing JB, I'm really pleased all the loyalty we have shown you and the time and money we have put into your development have been held in high regard by you. We should have sacked you when you went out driving pi55ed up. To55er.

What loyalty have we shown him?

Did we offer him a four year contract last summer? Or a three year contract even? Or maybe a two year contract? No, we offered nothing. How can you be loyal to a club who doesn't even offer you a secure contract,

If we had shown him loyalty and backed him when he was first showing glimpses of what he was capable of then we wouldn't be in this situation now. But we left him on his first pro contract on relatively little money for as long as possible so we didn't have to spend any more money than the bare minimum. That isn't any sort of loyalty at all.

Surely any player would jump at the chance to more than treble their wages, have the chance of playing in the Premier League instead of a championship club with a stadium less than half full and a large number of fans who don't appreciate them because they cant run fast or kick people?

No no you are wrong Danny, if he had any ambition he should stay with us instead of wanting to join a premiership club, massively increasing in wages plus playing against some of the best players in the world and playing in front of packed crowds week in week out, the lad is showing no ambition what so ever

Re: What loyalty have we shown him?

I would have much more time for your criticism of the club's policy of offering contracts to younger players if your stinging rebuke had been offered two years ago when Butterfield could not hold down a place in Mark Robins' struggling side. The problem for Mark Robins was that Butterfield is not strong enough to operate in a 4-4-2 system. Hill quickly realised that Butterfield could be a force in a 4-5-1 system and built the team around him and Barnsley suddenly had a player. However, if Norwich try to play him in a 4-4-2 he will not thrive. We are all 100% correct when we make our decisions after the event. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but we should all be honest enough to recognise when we are using it.

Apart from sticking by him through the Academy since 2007

and when he got a driving conviction and through his rehabilitation. Other than that, he's perfectly entitled to feel let down by us.

Re: Apart from sticking by him through the Academy since 2007

I can't remember his driving conviction having an adverse effect on his football. And since when is getting rid of good academy players a good policy?

I'm not saying the club have let him down particularly, but neither have they done all they could to hold on to him. They let his contract run down and he has decided to join a bigger club. How he is a lovely person for doing that is beyond me.

Why do some criticise our players for wanting to better themselves? I for one hope he goes on to get capped at international level and play at the highest level for most of his career. Surely thats better than failure and we can then say that our club provided him with the foundations to develop his talent and is a good marker for future youth players when we're competing with other clubs?

Did Mark Robins have a struggling side? We beat relegation at a canter in those days.
