    from Yorkshire Post:

“The initial offer received by the football club is an absolute joke. It is scandalous and disrespectful,” said Hill. “Jacob has been at the football club for a number of years. Last year, he was made team captain, he was selected for the England Under-21s, he was selected for the (provisional) Olympic GB team and, for me, it just stinks.

“I am very cynical about the whole tribunal affair,” he added.

“You never get a true reflection or valuation. It seems ridiculous that they (Norwich) will go to tribunal trying to get him for as little monetary value as possible which is probably a reflection of them not really fancying him – and they do, they do want to recruit him – but they don’t want to do the right thing and meet somewhere in the middle with respect to what we feel Jacob is worth and what they feel he is worth.

“I am disappointed because this has lingered on since January,” Hill said. “I would have expected business to have been concluded by now and probably in a more appropriate manner than it has been over the last four or five days.”

wow - a team trying to get another teams captain for peanuts

    Kettle Pot Black

Kieth old boy sit down and have a think.

Compare the Greer deal to the butterfield one.

    See my line of thinking.

Now go back even further to this time last year. Maybe if you had reviewed Jacobs contract when you made him captain we wouldnt be having this discussion now.

Stop bairning and get some players signed!

Hes not bairning on. He and they are playing to the unwritten rules of the game. We say we want a £2, they offer a quid , it goes to tribunal and we get £1.50. We say we want £5 and they still offer a quid, it goes to tribunal and we get £3.50. Comment all you like about contracts, but we will never know what the underlying factors were.

Surely we need to draw comparisons with Howson

who they paid £2.2million for. Young creative midfielder, club captain, youth international etc.

The tribunal fee should take into account the contract he is being offered at Norwich. I would be interested to compare Jacob's salary to (say) Howson's.

Doubt he would have signed anyway. Jacob Butterfield's only concern is Jacob Butterfield not Barnsley FC.

No comparison with the Greer deal as he is still in contract and they can rightly turn it down. Norwich have us over a barrel.
