Eyup lads, long time reader - first time poster!

Would like to raise the debate of who would fit into our squad to make us really compete this year? Living in the USA i don't get to see the games at Oakwell anymore, so my opinions of players last season are really pretty vague.

I'm really pleased the club is showing some ambition with bringing in Mido and Mellis, and i think under Hillcroft they are likely to shine for us.

Who else do you think would improve us? It pains me to say i think Howard would be a good signing, yes he left on a bad note but given the talent he has and the influence on the team i'd love to see him in a red shirt (all to the everyone deserves a second chance?!?!)

Thanks for having me here, and give them the backing for the fans like me who can't make the games!

    Welcome to the madhouse, mate

Hope your stay is a long and happy one.
I'm perfectly content to allow the manager the time and patience to bring in the players he wants and then integrate them into the squad. The four players he's brought in so far weren't on any of the fans' radar until just before they signed. So I don't expect it to alter with any other incoming transfers.:D

    hi mate

I think we need a new centre back, we should push the budget in this area in my opinion. I would get rid of Edwards, stealing a wage. Someone young and commanding, or old and commanding. A big nasty b**tard.

Howard is a good shout if he will fit in budget imho. He is a decent championship player, no more no less. I would also be keen on Hammill on loan if possible if he is on the bench at wolves. If not, I think he will go for Carayol.

Welcome aboard mate. I'm not sure about Howard anymore, I would like to think he can recreate the form we saw from him before his head was turned but nothing really points to that and most importantly I dont think Hill fancies him. I'd say we definitely need a big strong centre half in the mould of Big Daz, I hope Hill thinks we need one too. Still hoping for us to have another pop at getting the lad from Brighton.

Welcome to the BBS. Do stick around. I heard we are trying to sign Jay Cutler as we are short on guys who can quickly attack for their team when we have the ball :)

Reliable source? If Hill can get the best out of Brian then he'd be more than welcome back at Oakwell IMO.

    Hello and welcome.

There is a glaring hole that we will find very hard to fill. I didn't fully appreciate how good a player Butterfield was until he was injured. Tonge had a couple of decent games in that role but was far from being as effective as Butterfield. Davies' goals dried up as we weren't creating as many chances and we ended up playing 4-4-2 more and more to try and get goals which compromised our ability to keep possession which in turn led to us letting in more goals. Of course this was confounded by losing Vaz Te and Drinkwater and not having any money to spend to plug the gaps. I don't think Mellis is a comparable player to Butterfield and we have yet to replace him, and I'm not sure we ill be able to.

On a brighter note I think the squad will be much better balanced this year, he has got rid of quite a few of the high wage earners who weren't playing and has brought in some quality. One thing we can do, without signing anyone, is have better width. Obviously better players helps but this is largely a tactical thing. When we played Swansea in the cup it was telling that the reason their passing football works is because the full backs were constantly overlapping. Even if the ball didn't reach them they opened up other options inside. This was my biggest frustration to the back end of last season.
