    Its illegal to ride on a train without paying.

    A lot of people do it, me included once or twice. But it is illegal and you'll find yourself in court if you get caught.

    Fare dodging but I reckon you were just lucky and the conductor didn't get on. I can't imagine there would be barriers in Alfreton station.
