    First Half
    Alnwick
    Stones, Foster, McNulty, Steade
    O'Brien, Clarke, Hassell, Digby, Done
    Mido

First half was pants; first 20 minutes we tried passing along the back line, which eventually ended up in a cross field pass aimed for Done, which was rarely acurate. A lot of the young lads played the first half, Steade, Clarke, Digby and Stones. Thought Clarke had a decent game, very busy. Bobby Hassell played just in front of the back 4 in what was a 4-5-1, and was our standout player imo, he seemed to be everywhere and looked well up for the game. Mido was the lone striker, and after being penalised 3 times for offside, when he finally got a chance at goal, he cleared the perimeter fence, 8 yards from goal, his first touch wasn't bad, but apart from one neat ball out wide to Clarke, he looked a long way off being ready. Alnwick played in goal first half, and had very little to do, other than clear the ball from his own goal line after making a hash of a back pass. As the half went on, we settled a bit more, and I missed Matty Done have one cleared off the line, but all in all, a very slow first half.

    2nd Half
    Lidakevicius
    Wiseman, Edwards, Collins, Golbourne
    Mellis, Dawson, Perkins
    Dagnall, Davies, Etuhu

We came out in the 2nd half with a completely different team, which looked much more attacking from the offset. Dawson, Mellis and Perkins were all looking to get the ball down the middle. When we were in possession, Daggers and Etuhu offered an outlet infield which opened up space for Wiseman and Golbourne to attack. This worked a treat especially when Golbourne broke down the left, recieved a pass from Etuhu and crossed for Davies, who controlled and rolled it into the bottom corner from about 8 yards. Mellis and Etuhu both looked fairly sharp, Etuhu was very composed on the ball and was looking to press forward all the time, very impressed on first glance. Dagnall looked good the first 10 minutes, but his passing afterwards was awful. Think Mellis played a great through ball for Davies for the 2nd goal, the keeper got a hand to it but it trickled in. Davies almost had a hat trick and looked in fine form, after a very clever ball from Etuhu set him through again, only for the offside flag to go up. Alfreton pulled one back with a similar goal to our first, and then Edwards went off with a cut to his face, so Rose (our only remaining outfield sub) came on, he went up as a centre forward, Golbourne moved to the left wind, Etuhu came inside and I reckon Dawson went wide right. Must say, both Dawson and Perkins looked well up for it, where there wasn't one of them, the other appeared, in both defence and attack, Perkins made some smart runs forward, and Dawson got some very menacing crosses into the box.

All in all, a much improved 2nd half when we played more attacking players, Hassell seems to have recovered well from his injury, and Etuhu looks very promising.

    Good report - but now for the important questions;

    1. How many Barnsley fans there?
    2. Were the pies nice and good value?
    3. How unfit is Mido?
    4. I cant think of another question but couldnt be bothered to delete 4. .

    1. attendance was 650ish, reckon at least 500 reds fans.
    2. Well priced, went for chips and gravy myself, which cost £2, pretty good value, but the chips were a bit pale.
    3. He's a presence, put it that way. Looks miles off being ready for the season, more so than Vaz Te did last season.
    4. Very hospitable bunch them Alfretonians, nice drop in the club house, and a game of bingo laid on for Alfreton's lady folk whilst the blokes watch the football.

Best player on the pitch was their number six. Stood head and shoulders above everyone else.

Wiseman at fault for their goal.

He came on at half time, didn't do much other than score. Was impressed with their number 6 I think it was. Very skillful player, caused Foster no end of trouble in the first half, they took him off at half time. Got behind our back 4 several times, but just seemed to lack a bit of quality in front of goal.

Strikers can go missing in games and then score a goal. Talented lad I hope his trial works out there.
