I'm new to the site so apologies if this has been dealt with elsewhere but what's the view amongst Barnsley fans about how Keith Hill's doing? I know Rochdale fans would take him back in a flash...
He's struggled a bit with the fans who think it's the mid 1990's and feel that he has to keep telling them how wonderful they are. But those of us who are normal don't have a problem with him. He's got a very difficult task dealing with a club suffering from bad management at higher levels which has meant us having to rebuild half way through every season we've been back in the Championship. I think he'll be reight in the long term. Dyson wants to bum him.
Re: He's struggled a bit with the fans who think it's the mid 1990's In a sand pit, dry, whilst wearing his barbour jacket. Proper fan.
Statistically, going on points per game, I believe he's the worst manager in the history of our club. There's mitigating factors, there always are, but on the pitch we're not pulling up any trees. He's got a lot to prove this coming season. I hope he does well because the last thing I want is another change in manager. Personality wise, some people like and others don't.
In a nutshell......its a game of two halves.........but at Barnsley last season.........it was a season of two halves First half he built a team that could have got into the top 10 mabe even the top 6. Second half of the season....... we had the worst team in the division and were saved from relegation because Pompey had points deducted. On a personal note..........most fans like Keith Hill............unfortunatly this is not reciprocated, he dosent seem to like us Barnsley fans
Keefy is a bit of a clown who thinks he is better than he actually is. Hope he proves me wrong and to be fair, working with the don et al must be hard cos they are proper clowns. Hope this helps
The players like playing for him injuries and player sales were significant last season with a settled squad who knows?
Extremely Northern... Best on BBS by a mile (along with JLWBigthingy). Top man, I love reading your posts.
The way he wants his team to perform was great when he had the players at his disposal unfortunatly he struggled when things went against us and this must be rectified this season to avoid the same struggle. This is not just from Hill but from the Board we can't allow star players to leave at January and replace with lower league players. Give him the right squad for the whole season and I believe Hill will give us plenty of entertainment on and off the pitch!
There's a small group who can't stand him which has lead to those who like him overstating how good he is. He is a character who speaks his mind which means he does polarise people. Personally I like it, but i can understand why it pisses people off. On the field he is trying to play good football, which worked when we had better players and didnt when we had worse players. He's working under a much reduced budget and last year delivered the same outcome. However, when things weren't going well he struggled to arrest the decline. This must improve. The biggest thing I like about him is he gives me a genuine feeling that we COULD overachieve and do something special and unexpected. At times last season before January there was a real buzz and excitement about the place which i hadn't felt under the two previous managers. Hopefully this year the board wont pull the rug from under his feet.
I think Hill did a fantastic job in very difficult circumstances in the first half of last season. In the second half he found himself in even more difficult circumstances and we had a torrid time. He can take no credit from the second half of the season at all because we gained so few points and played so poorly. We have one of the weakest squads now in the Championship and if we do not get relegated this seasn then he will have done a very good job as things stand; in my opinion he needs to make some excellent signings to make the squad competetive. We have lost, in my opinion, the best midfielder in the Championship (Butterfield) and one of the top 3 strikers. He has signed Mellis who may fill the gap left by Butterfield but one thing is for certain, Dagnall will not fill Ricardo Vaz Te's boots, or even lace them. It will prove extremely difficult to replace these two with the money provided by the board. He spent a lot of last season trying to lower expectations of the fans and to some extent that has worked, however, his method in doing so has alienated a lot of supporters. I think he is a decent manager and could do a good job but he needs to work with getting the fans on board, because ultimately, if he doesn't they will get him the sack. One thing is for sure, if we start getting some momentum and a better offer comes in, he will be off like a shot. I am not sure why, but I severely question his loyalty; I don't think he's here for the long run.
How's he doing? The jury is still out and he would have more supporters if he knew when to keep his gob shut. He's got the same results as previous managers (Robins, Davey) with less resources at his disposal. I have an inkling he'll do a good job for us but I've got a horrible feeling he'll end up flouncing off or being given the boot if his soundbites don't change regarding fans or transfer budget.
