    Isn't this just so that it makes sense to more people? A little welsh boy having the story read out to him for example wontbe scared at all if the giant is smelling an englishman's blood because its not him.

    I don't think it's anything to do with political correctness, more an attempt to sell more copies without having to change it for different regions.

    I didn't say that anybody found it an issue, I said that the publisher probably thought they could make more money by generalising a little bit.

    People claim that things are 'political correctness gone mad' when in actual fact the story is either completely made up or nothing to do with political correctness.

    Of course the publisher may have changed the line in case somebody from france read the nursery rhyme and got offended that jack is English but I very, very much doubt that.
