Exactly my thoughts. 'Significant/substantial six figure fee' was the wording I think The Don used. That had me thinking £800k/900k certainly not £500k as it turned out to be! I expect this 'well over' a million to be no more than £1.2m. If it was £1.5 or over The Don would have been rounding it up. SHAFTED... AGAIN...
Nothing to do with which deal it is, its The Don's wording, what he thinks are substantial and well over could mean completely different figures to what we mean. I wouldn't bet on us getting £1.5 million. Just been reading a bit of the Lowton deal, the lads not even played for England at any level, 23 year old, £3 million. Thats because they had him tied up to a decent contract, the club really need to review their post administration 2 year deals. On the plus side didn't we offer Norwood a 3 year deal?
No it wasn't 3 million. We did, theres MONEY to be spent and this will add a lot more. Not saying Keith Hill will spent it all has he sees himself has part of the business side and the football side it seems.
No they wouldn't. Barnsley will try to understate any income because other clubs will be looking and if barnsley say how much does he cost, it will have gone up a few 100k because barnsley are saying they have plenty of money. The fee will not be released 100%.
How can we possibly argue with 'well over a million' for him, had he been another year older, we'd have got nothing for him. Fair play to the club for standing firm and getting a fair amount for him, plus add ons. We're learning.
Some income of note for The Academy at last. Spend it wisely Don remember we are a selling club. Here`s hoping.
Re: Anyone got a link to this article please, I cannot get the Chronicle where I live I think 'well over 1 million' means about 1.2/1.3 IMO otherwise it would have been 'around 1.5m' or 'around 2m'. Anyway, least we weren't shafted too badly. Now spend some money on a new bloody scoreboard!!!
Re: Anyone got a link to this article please, I cannot get the Chronicle where I live .... Barnsley are pleased to announce the signing of a new scoreboard.... I can hear the uproar now!!!
Re: Anyone got a link to this article please, I cannot get the Chronicle where I live Yeah....sod spending money on the team, let's buy a new scoreboard so we can see how many goals we've conceeded!
Re: Anyone got a link to this article please, I cannot get the Chronicle where I live It'll stop the boredom in the stands, they can put Cora on during the night games. Some money needs spending off the field if they're hoping to keep breaking even, income levels are dropping.
How are we like Arsenal ???..........Barnsley is exactly the opposite Their top player says he wont sign another contract at the end of next year when is contract runs out. So what does Arsenal do................leave him sat in the dressing room and then put him up for sale with a year left on his contract Barnsley in the same position would play that player for another year and then get nothing for him - more or less give him away The whole stratergy at Barnsley regarding players contracts is laughable
