Can somebody explain why we would accept a bid for him? Wouldn't we be guaranteed to get just as much if not more at a tribunal? If norwich offer £1m and we turn it down would a tribunal then say they only think he's worth £800k even though a bid had been made and refused for more than that? In fact has this ever happened? Have two clubs been arguing over a players valuation and the tribunal set the fee lower than both clubs valued him?

Maybe bfc thought they would eventually get more with the add ons

Does a tribunal just set a one off fee or can the state add on for appearances etc

I have no idea to the answers to any of these questions lol

No matter what option the club took you would have seen the negative in it.

Tribunals do generally include add-ons for appearances and things as far as I'm aware. They definitely have in the past anyway.

The only benefit to us that I can think of is that we have the money now not in a couple of months.

No negative, just a question. We aren't the only club to accept offers before going to tribunals, i'm just not sure what the reason is.

Leaving it to a tribunal could have seen the club not knowing what kind of transfer budget it has to work with because it could have gone right down to the wire and the club could have gambled with funds it did not have to spend.

I know many feel we have been shafted but on this occassion i feel the club took the better of the 2 options available.

My guess is that the bid can be made without prejudice with a view to settling a dispute and therefore can't be relied on at a Tribunal.

The obvious answer is we now have a larger budget we can use THIS transfer window.

Overall i'm satisfied with the amount we got. When put into persepctive with other recent transfers like Lowton then that is the disappointing thing, but at the end of the day over a million for a Barnsley player is extremely rare.

What I do think is a bit poor though is the fee after international appearances. I'd have said scrap that and got the same fee after a set number of league games. Outfield players playing at teams like Norwich don't get England caps. The scenario that happens is if a player for a team like Norwich is looking good, they end up getting a transfer to a bigger club, where they then proceed to earn International caps.

I believe it can. The club also have to take into account the legal cost of a tribunal which is pretty damn expensive apparently as it requires specialist legal representation to get the best outcome at the Tribunal.

The verdict from the club's legal team, taking into account previous tribunal outcomes, was that we got a good deal.

cheers gally. I didn't realise that clubs used legal teams for tribunals.
