Results of friendlies do not matter, its how they played together that counts. If we are still making the same mistakes over and over then, its been a waste of time, but if we are improving then it been worth it.
Dunt matter a **** We played Wednesday completely off the park last pre-season - they got promoted we nearly got relegated. Vividly remember us looking disjointed at Chesterfield pre 96/97 season when we lost 1-0 - Bosancic looked clueless, Wilkinson looked like a head on a stick - then look what happened... We're obviously practicing certain tactics/patterns of play whilst attaining match fitness and apparently looking at triallists. Some players will fall by the wayside but in the grand scheme of things it's a building process towards the new season. Imho we can't draw any conclusions - good or bad.
i went...very poor at the back and Mido now seems trimmer but still looks like a dad playing with the kids in the park...Clark and Dagnall looked decent when on and that lad played again, him who was at Boro
Re: Dunt matter a **** 0-0 vs Stocksbridge = Promotion to the Prem and 20+ goals for Dagnall. Believe Brothers!
Pre-season performances mean nothing much, pre-season results mean absolutley **** all. They are as insignificant as the most insignificant thing that exists.
agree about the defence, apart from Steade at left back, who looked okay. Having seen all our defenders have a run out over the past few days it's clear there's some work to do there and I wouldn't like to guess which four will be first choice. Mido showed some good touches today and Silva impressed, as did Mellis and Rose when they came on. Would like to see Steele back in goal for the first match though.
looked okay. Rose looked very good when he came on. we lost shape in the middle after mellis came on, however, he is good on the ball. who was the lad who started up front with Mido with the blonde hair? looked like Paul Green from a distance and was quality on the ball. back four werent that bad at all except Wiseman who imo was turd. Mido and silva both have bags of ability. Once Mido is fit he will be a vgood signing.
IMO it wasn't as bad as it sounds Alnwick Wiseman, Foster, Edwards, Steade Silva, Martin, Hassell, Trialist, Clarke Mido We looked pretty fit in the first half, attacked down both flanks with a bit of purpose. Silva, played on the right even though he is VERY left footed, seemed to do a lot of running but then tried to cut in on his stronger foot, and often lacked end product. A couple of opportunities spring to mind when he got within 6 yards of goal, and tried to square the ball for Mido because he couldn't get a clean strike on his stronger foot. Another was where he was set through on goal from a counter attack and was looking for support all the time, didn't seem confident infront of goal, but looks a decent prospect. Malaury Martin had a decent game, not sure about the other trialist though, seemed to do a lot of running, but didn't get into the game much. Special mention to the two lads down the left, Steade and Clarke, both linked up well together and had a good game, although Clarke went off after about 25 mins. Steade slid a brilliant through ball for Done, who squared a pass for Mido after about half hour who tucked the ball away only to find he was offside. Mido, looked much better in the first half than he did at Alfreton and Rotherham. Won everything in the air, moved the ball about fairly well and had a couple of decent efforts on goal. Not sure he'll be fit for the season, but could certainly contribute imo. The team finished off as: Alnwick Kilburn, Foster, Edwards, Steade Noble Lazarus, Mellis, Martin, Done Dagnall, Rose Done looked a bit leggy, but Mellis came on and put himself about again, was unlucky not to score, as was Rose who missed two great chances late on. It might sound a bit obvious, but we look much better when we're attacking, and playing a more attacking line up, than when we do with one up top and a holding midfielder. Hassell has played well again in that holding midfield role, but I really do hope we go for it a bit more when the season starts, i'm not a fan of one striker. £2.65 for a bottle of Kopperberg made my night, nearly a £1 less than it is in my local boozer. YOU REDS!!!
Came on for hassell with about 20 minutes left, looked okay, looked strictly a fullback, as opposed to Wiseman who was offering support in attack, which meant Rose often drifted out wide to aid RNL. Think all the squad was there, but I think we used all of the subs we intended to, a lot of the young lads were sat on the hill next to the main stand. I assumed he was with how early he came off, shame really, because in these friendlies he's really stood out for me.
Yeah he did, looked very good tonight, much better than last week at Alfreton. Very good on the ball, made some excellent runs forward, one in particular where he darted past two and found himself on the edge of the opposing box before being sandwiched by two defenders.
Its all just spin innit! If we win its important we won and get that winning habit If we lose its not about the result. Footballers are one of the most uninteresting people to interview surely. Its all just a bunch of cliches and refurgitated rubbish. There are exeptions and its nice when u do.
We played worse than last saturday and it wasn't pretty. Andreas and Martin played well. Silva looked decent too, but apart from that it wasn't good. Done missed a few really good chances and Mido hit three wide and only hit the target the time he was offside for the unteenth time for the disallowed goal that Done should have struck rather than squaring it.
