I actually found it quite funny. You could not have picked a more sensitive nation to drop that ballack on.

I blame the CIA ha ha :) Unless it was a test arranged by the new great leader, and failure would have meant the labour camps :(

Congratulations to the North Koreans for having the cojones to take moral umbrage at anything, never mind a silly organisational mistake. I see it took them an hour to decide to play on, perhaps they were on the secure line to the glorious leader, determining which option would keep them safest from the death squads?

That is a quite pathetic mistake to make though and I don't doubt it will be the last. If they can't even get a country's flag and name right what price someone cocking up at the opening ceremony. What's the odds on the gas not being connected up for the flaming cauldron? At least that dee-dar astronaut won't be carrying the torch this time.

I suppose its the first since the olympics actually started but there have been a few before hand

This was straight out of the 2012 comedy program though

    spot on simon.
people coming on here pumping the good value for the billions spent towards a magnificent spectacle then a pathetic simple mistake is made and they then shrug it off because its in there view an insigificant little country that doesn't matter to them .
even though its not in the olympic spirit and honourable ideals that they keep spouting when it suits them.then try to say you are against the sporting fraternity because you don't agree with the excesses of these creatures of glutton.
but then again i'm not surprised at the double dealing standards of the poster who ridiculed them with the death squad remark as i seem to remember most of the residents of barnsley fall foul of this posters spew see below.

Anyway I think you're right that for the vast majority of people, the Olympics are primarily about the spectacle, the prestige, with (for us) the added honour of hosting the games (and yes the business/reputational opportunities this will hopefully inevitably present - lord knows we could use the boost), and most importantly of all the prospect and now reality of the finest athletes and competitors in the world coming together to vie for the greatest honours world sport can offer. I love the Olympics, and what I think it still represents for most of us, particularly the honourable ideals it still seeks to promote, and believe me I'm as cynical as they come.

Just to explain the gravity of the situation from the DPRK point of view...

The South and the North are mortal enemies, in the north's eyes:
It's like displaying the 1948 British Olympic team's photos next to a Nazi flag and playing Deutschland Uber Alles at their medal ceremony.

It's literally the worst **** up they could have made regarding flags.

Hmmm, I'm not sure where to start with my response to your latest rambling attack Marlon. You seem to be having a pop here because I agreed with a slightly earlier post from someone else (Calgary Tyke) in a separate thread (entitled 'Olympics' I think) who'd had the audacity to strongly disagree with your view. Do you see a pattern here?

While I don't think my post in that thread was actually relevant in any way to the issue here of a simple human error re the Korean flag(s) and the North Korean's ludicrous overreaction, I note you've managed both to quote this out of context, and not in it's entirety.

Anyway I'll briefly pick up a few of the points you've made, and I'll split these up and speak slowly so even you can understand:

Can you tell me where I've said or intimated that North Korea is an insignificant little country that does not matter? I can assure you that they are neither little (roughly the same size as England - don't you own an atlas?) nor insignificant - there's as good a chance of them being the catalysts for the next world war as any of the other lunatic regimes - I'd say that makes them reasonably significant. Doesn't change the fact that their childish overreaction (you'll be familiar with this concept) to the wrong flag being shown was laughable.

When have 'most of the residents of Barnsley' (a group which includes me and most of my family/friends) fallen foul of my spew? No doubt you have clear examples of this?

Can you provide any actual examples of me demonstrating double standards? I can't think of any off-hand but to use that term you must again have some examples?

I recall your typical reaction to me actually challenging your unfounded attacks tends to be to accuse me of either twisting or backpedalling from my own arguments to suit my position, however hopefully by seeking the clarifications above I've given you the chance to explain why you've alleged these things about me. Either that or you're just a gobsh*te. Which is it?

It wasn't childish. It may look that way to the outside world, but it's a very serious thing here/in the north.. Up there it's illegal to even display the South's flag. If you do, it gets you and your family a trip to a gulag for life. If they hadn't walked off, that's where they would have ended with hard labour or dead.

Even in the more relaxed south, supporting anything at all that the north do lands you in jail for about 20 years. A guy recently re-tweeted something the DPRK twitter feed had posted, and is now locked up and will be lucky to see the light of day again. And this is in the south.

'i stated i wasn't going to answer your posts due to the way you twist the response at every flaw in your replies.' - what does that second bit even mean? I rest my case regarding you Marlon - you are just a nasty little gobsh*te after all.

By the way, if I've 'inflamed' or upset anyone else with the content of any of my previous posts, or indeed anyone thinks me snake-like, I'd be perfectly happy to hear from you as to why?
