Embarrassingly bad. I want my licence fee back. Or a re-run.

BBC beats ITV hands down in all areas. Except cycling coverage. Can't beat Phil Liggett and Gary Imlach. Not so keen on Paul Sherwin though.

    Who were your commentators then?

We had Phil Liggett. I did wonder if it was Australia specific because his co-commentator was an Aussie.

I assume you had Phil Liggett and Paul Sherwin for the Tour.

Yep, and Gary Imlach and Chris Boardman for the links. I like the ITV coverage. Watch Sky snap it up now though.

I saw an interview with Phil Liggett and an Australian commentator called him "the voice of cycling" while discussing Evans's victory last year so I'm assuming he's well known to Aussie cycling fans.

Despite riding the tour numerous times it's funny how Paul Sherwin seems to know sod all about it. Rather listen to him than Sean Kelly though.

Paul "Have I mentioned Philippe Gilbert yet?" Sherwin

Sherwin's alright but his monotone commentatary can grate a bit, especially when he turns to "a remarkable chateau". Also, I wish he'd stop harping on about bike handling every two minutes as if mere mortals tumble off their bikes left right and centre. At one point he was attributing Sagan's avoidance of a group crash down to superb bike handling when a minute earlier they didn't know if Sagan had avoided it. For all they knew, he was in front of the crash when it happened.

He does do that a lot.

He always seems to make the wrong call though. He'll say something like "Maxime Monfort is going from strength to strength" while I'm thinking that he looks shattered. Two minutes later Monfort will start going backwards. Or he'll say "Andreas Kloden is going off the back there, he's having a bad day" thirty seconds later Kloden will be on someone's back wheel making his way back into the group. He must have made some shocking decisions when he was riding.
