In retrospect, the way that Spain play now shows that Spackman was a visionary and ten years ahead of his time. The only problem was he signed sh!te midfielders...

Best thing about trials, you aren't commited to anything!

Gives us a chance to have a look and also gives the lad experience of training with a football league team.

Was it Flinders with sent to Chelsea for a trial / experience? By the Chelsea fans were in uproar when they saw that, demanding refunds!

If Hogan impresses on trial i'd not have a problem with us signing him. He would be a cheap gamble that might pay off and he's going to be eager to impress so he can get the chance to play at a much higher level. As for Sonko he would be really good. We've not had a nasty ******* defender since Darren Moore.

It would be a pointless gamble. If he's on £100 a week it's £100 wasted.

I'd be happy if we signed Sonko

And Gillett. As for Hogan, I don't see a problem in giving him a trial. If it comes off, great. If it doesn't, nothing's been lost. For example, a few years ago Hill signed Craig Dawson from non-league Northwich Victoria. He didn't play the lad in the Rochdale first team for a few months, Hill & Flitcroft gradually moulding him into want was required. After impressing with Rochdale, Dawson then got a big money move to WBA, is picked regularly for England U21 and is currently a member of Team GB in the Olympics. But obviously Hill is a ****, incompetent manager who doesn't know what he's doing & is totally out of his depth(!) If he signs players from lower down the footballing pyramid, he's useless and wrong to do so. He should be signing players from Premier League clubs, as that's where all the best players are! However, when he signs players from Chelsea, Spurs & Liverpool this summer, that's not good enough, either.
I seem to remember when we won promotion to the Premier League, we had in the squad two players signed from non league (Darren Sheridan from Winsford Utd and Martin Bullock from Eastwood Town), two from the bottom Division (Matty Appleby from Darlington and Steve Davis from Burnley) and three totally unknown lads from abroad with absolutely no experience of playing in this country (Arjan De Zeeuw, Jovo Bosancic and Clint Marcelle). Please spare me from the utter ****** that the game's totally different today.

Breaking news..... fans uproar at attempts to sign Messi

BFC message boards were today full of hostility to the proposed transfer of world player of the year and all time record goalscorer for Barca, Lionel Messi.

"He's never played through a winter like we get in yorkshire. Can he even say Barnsley properly? He's too small and doesn't tackle enough. Were just some of the comments noted.

Re: I'd be happy if we signed Sonko

I think quite a few Barnsley fans are missing the whole point of Hill's job at Barnsley, and something that he was brought in for.

His instructions are to find players on free transfers / lower league who he can potentially develop and then sell on. Simple as that. We aren't going to throw 3/4 year contracts at these players, no matter how much we wish they would.

We also had one of the best young goalkeepers in the country, three youth team lads who had been developing within the club for years and players like Hendrie, Thomson, Redfearn and Wilkinson who had played at the very top level and had bags of experience. Now we have dross like Dawkins, Wiseman and Dagnall and we expect a lad who couldn't cut it in the Conference North to come into that side and play well? People are living in a dreamworld.

He was so good that Halifax didn't want him? Is that what you're saying?

    Some of our fans

Criticised the signings of Thompson ("Why have Ipswich given him a free transfer? If he's not good enough for Ipswich, he's not good enough for us"), Wilkinson & Hendrie ("They're only here for their last pay day. What does Wilkinson offer, apart from nothing? Have Middlesbrough got any more useless players they can get us to buy?"). Folk were writing into the Chronicle berating the club's purchasing policy (after the second 0-0 home draw in a week during October). Even Danny Wilson came in for criticism that Summer of 1996. He'd moved on the likes of Owen Archdeacon, Brendan O'Connell, Charlie Bishop & Lee Butler. Worst of all, he'd let our best striker Andy Payton sign for Huddersfield. That obviously showed Huddersfield were ambitious and Barnsley weren't, according to the intelligentsia.
I wish I had all the answers to the club's problems like others do. Unfortunately, I can only voice my opinion rather than state absolute facts. At least I can get educated by our current intelligentsia, as I obviously need it. :)

Anyone know if Hogan wore number 9 for Stocksbridge last week? Cos if it is him, I remember saying to my mate in the 2nd half that he looked a right handful.
