Every year since we came back up we have unearthed a star player to keep us up - sometimes almost single-handed. So who will be this season's Howard / Campbell-Ryce / Hammil / Vaz Te? I can't see us staying up without one. Just looked at the second half of 11/12 for evidence. Hint: it won't be Mido
Quite possibly This is a wonderful opportunity for Etuhu to put his off the field troubles behind him, learn his lesson and show how much he wants to be a successful professional footballer. I may be in a minority on here, but I don't think we'll be relegated this season. It's my opinion that mid table obscurity beckons for us.
I think we're putting too much pressure on Silva if we expect it to be him. The lad is only 18. We all hope he's going to develop in to a quality player, but that's for the future, anything we get out of him this season is a bonus. I wouldn't be surprised if Keith Hill only uses him sparingly.
There are a number of players who have a great opportunity to becoming this years 'superstar' : Jacob Mellis Kelvin Etuhu Toni Silva Craig Davies Jordan Clark (When recovered) Paul Digby The problem is though, there isn't a defender who i believe could be a superstar. Thats where the problem lies, along with cover up front. Until we get that sorted out, the minus goal difference will take our attention away from the above players, as we will lose a hell of a lot of games.
Re: Quite possibly I'm in the minority with you Kev, I don't think we'll be relegated either. I have a feeling McNulty and O'Brien will have good seasons. Steele will be outstanding as always but will probably be sold in January to balance the books. Etuhu and Mellis both have the ability to make an impact.
