How has he got a minimum bronze if he is only in the semi's? If he loses his semi won't he be in the bronze medal match, where if he loses he gets nowt? I haven't really been following the boxing at the olympics so not sure how it works.

 

Dont they both get Bronze int boxing.

 

In boxing (and I think only in boxing), both losing semi finalists get bronze. Think it's always been like this or at least for years anyway.

 

Thanks both. Now you mention it I seem to remember having the same realisation moment at the last Olympics. They should really have to fight for it though.

 

Think it may have come in around same time as headgear.

 

Got 2 in semis and 4 more in QF`s plus 3 women in semis.

As I understand it it's because if someone gets knocked out they're not allowed to fight again within a certain period of time so to ensure that both losing semi-finalists get fair treatment they simply don't make any losing boxers fight again.

 

If somebody gets knocked out they can't fight for a minimum period of time.

 

Thought we only had 1 woman in semis.
