I know i'm opening myself up for a hammering here but here goes:

Just before I went to bed last night at 11.30pm I looked out of my landing window and saw a bright light in the distance. Obviously initially thought it was a plane or something. Looked out again about 10 minutes later, and it was still there in the same position. Because we have a nice view out of our landing window I keep a pair of small binoculars up there. I decided to look at this bright light through the binoc's and was amazed to see it was like a large circle of separate lights, then with a separate line of lights straight through the middle and slightly angled. I looked around the sky at the stars that were all normal. But then I saw another one of those round objects of lights, but this wasn't as bright but was probably further away. This wasn't moving either. This one was still there when I finally went to bed. The other one however started moving across the sky - much faster than the average plane, and disappeared out of sight very quickly. The one that moved appeared to have been over Mapplewell way, but was probably much much further away than that - maybe as far as Dewsbury (or further)? The other that was stationary was more like Wakefield or Featherstone (again, it could have been much further).

I looked online when I got to work this morning, but there appears to be no other mention.

I've always believed in things like this, but in my 32 years this is the first realistic thing i've seen of this kind.

Barnsley overlooks the "UFO Alley " which takes in Huddersfield and the Pennines - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S6241M3wdQs
I saw something similar about 30 years ago from Darton - over the vicinity of Emley Moor.

Not sure that an advanced civilisation would traverse vast distances and not announce themselves to us. However try this theory...
As many alleged close encounters involve 'humanoid aliens' It may actaully be 'future humans'. Imagine several thousand years in the future we discover time travel. Travelling back in time to 'observe' but with absolutely no interference due to the potential for paradox (changing future history to you and me) particularly as we are now more sophisticated any contact becomes more dangerous.

Early encounters could be explained away as 'contact with the Gods' and could explain many of the references in various religious texts to Gods and miracles . Many of the Commandments in the bible and rules in the Koran are slightly distorted and ritualised rules for hygiene for example. Take the rule for not eating Pork - dangerous in hot climates without refrigeration, only washing in running water. There are many other examples if people only look.

However far fetched it seems more logical than little green men. Time travel impossible?? Not many years since it was scientifically proven that man could not travel more than 60mph on a train as all the air would be sucked out of the carriage and people would suffocate , (not to mention man would never fly").

I like this theory. I read a a very interesting article in a magazine not so long ago that went into this theory in a lot of detail. It was very thought provoking indeed.

Did you publish a theory and write an article recently (Focus magazine I think)? It could have been your theory that I was reading. Come to think of it I'm sure the author was called T Tyke PhD.

I really think that's possible. However, even if it is, there will still be a line of time untouched by the future UNTIL the first time travel happens... actually my mind has melted thinking about that. I remember on red dwarf and back to the future it involved photographs going a bit hazy against probabilities... if you see polaroids going hazy, we've come back from the future!

I ran to get my camera, but unfortunately the battery was dead as all I use now is the camera on my phone. I tried getting a good shot on my phone but without the optical zoom it was having none of it and looked like a white pin-head. Through the binoc's though it was pretty spectacular! I would say trust me, but i'm not too bothered if you trust me or not. I saw it 100% and it amazed me. Do wish I could have caught a still image at least.
