I’m over back home for the weekend.

Are there any decent waterside bars/restaurants which I could go to on Saturday afternoon? None in the centre I know but is there any in the local area’s at all?

Just seeing what’s about before deciding if I should just head for Leeds.

Unless you want to enjoy your weekend with 'benefit cheats', 'dole scum' or just general 'riff-raff' then i'd just head to Leeds.

I remember years ago when I was younger before we moved to Manchester we use to go to a place what I think was called the Navigation in Wakefield I think it was.

Remember that been ok at the time but going back around 10 years now.

Was going to say Navigation myself but last time i went it had gone down hill a bit - but... that was a long time ago. Its also handy for the Kingfisher chippy! :)

I've always thought Barnsley town centre could do with a river

    Shocking oversight by the council.

Navigation has really gone down hill but the walk is a nice one and the people who are moored up in their barges near by are friendly folk. Kingfisher chippy takes some beating and Royal Oak does top notch pub grub.

    Elephant & Castle...

    ...at Hemmingfield.

The Old Moor Tavern at Lundhill is nearish to water. Also the restaurant at Newmiller Dam.

Elephant and Castle also not a patch on what it used to be.

Well, there is either the 'Dam Inn' or the Fox and Hounds.

There is the Pledwick a little further up the road, and even further up and around the bend is The Star and the Walnut Tree. That would be a decent little Pub Crawl on a lovely warm Saturday afternoon/early evening.

There are two, one each side of the bridge and both very nice if a little busy at this time of year.

I thought there were plans to have a river flowing down Market Hill in that tuscany village idea? Mad Friday would be interesting.

Is Japanese Whisper's fountain still in that Burlesque Bar that's opened?

Thaal Indian restuarant at the side of the Dearne at Darfield (Used to be the Bridge Inn), Boatman's Rest at Worsbrough but the Canal was filled in donkeys years ago. Rver Dove's about 300m away.
There's a nice country pub at Sprotborough (The Boat Inn) right by the locks on the River Don. Very popular when the weather's nice. It's also on the Trans-Pennine trail so you could cycle there.

If you wanna waterside seat in Barnsley pubs, try sitting near the bogs.
