from these olympics must be for everyone, the underprivileged as well as the neglected and ones lucky enough to have dedicated parents. otherwise these fantastic games and the nations enthusiasm for them will be criminaly wasted.
Exactly Sports facilities for everyone in society, not just the privileged, and start it in the schools.
I completely agree, someone should suggest it to the organisers. In fact it should be a pre-requisite before anyone is even allowed to host the Olympics.
Will the organisers Ensure all the fantastic facilities built for the Games will remain intact and available for public use? Will the current Government, and those that follow, ensure the funding will be there to maintain the facilities?
Re: Will the organisers it would need a lot of prolonged pressure and lobbying for that to happen but with the tories and libdems its not what they say will happen because they can't be trusted
Re: How much more Lots of.structure on Olympic park are temp hockey stadium upper tier of main stadium etc
Re: How much more structures can be built anywhere its the legacy that must be retained at all costs.
I can appreciate That the temporary structures have to be removed. But I don't see where the 'Legacy' claim can be made if some of the permanent structures are taken down. Or funding isn't put in place to replace them and create others.
Re: How much more The lasting legacy is an essential component of any country's bid to host the Olympic games. It is critical to a successful campaign, has been for decades. The allocation of Stratford and the commitment to revitalise that part of London, socially and economically played a big part in securing the games. Then there is the national agenda, which is amazingly complex. Whether it is seen through fairly is another matter, particularly when there has been a change of government in the meantime. I wouldn't trust Cameron as far as I could throw him.
Re: How much more I reckon I could throw him pretty far to be honest! Straight off the White Cliffs at Dover would be a bloody start! then follow him with Boris(look at what a fool I am)\Johnson, who is quite possibly the most calculating and evil of the Tory party.
I agree Marlon, but don't hold your breath, there will still be people in our ''great capital London'' and to a lesser degree elswhere, that are still living in cardboard boxes in the years to come. On one hand I am proud of the way we can out do the rest of the world with our organisational skills and our pomp and ceremony but on the other I am embarrassed at the way we treat our under privileged, our pensioners and the way we still allow the rich and privileged to prosper to the detriment of the masses.
Criminally wasted it is. Lots of platitudes from the great and the good but life goes on and after the words have stopped ringing in most young peoples ears they'll ve back down the job centre to sign on as several hundred people apply for the same job.
Reading all this makes you wonder why we even bothered hosting the games. Cheer up, it was a tremendous success! There is lots of public information information available online regarding all issues of legacy.
its just us oldens that can remember what rotten tricks these tories and their corperate friends are capable of, but you never know this time we could be wrong: but seriously i would be very surprised if any of these so called legact initiatives didn't massively involve the private sector and fee paying for all but the stick and ball and jumpers for goalpost type clubs.
