he has been a tremendous servant to the club, and a very good player too. I really hope that the club do not do the dirty on him.He may not need the money from a testimonial, But he certainly does merit the recognition.
definitely. Bobby is doing a lot of unpaid work in the local community for the benefit of local kids. He is probably putting more back into Barnsley schools than the rest of the club put together. None of this hardly ever gets commented about because he prefers to keep out of the limelight, and quietly get on with things
I'd sign it. As a club we are quick to criticise players who show a perceived lack of loyalty, so in Bobby's case the club and fans should repay his loyalty and service to the club. A new contract and a testimonial game.
Or just sing a version of this for 90 mins
So let me get this straight; You want us to pay at least, what, 100k? in wages to a player who in all likelihood wouldn't be in the squad on footballing ability. I'm all for acknowledging loyalty but Barnsley F.C are a business. Some of those wanting this will probably moan at our lack of signings elsewhere, too. Barmy.
I'd agree if he was cack but sentiment aside he is still worth a contract so as a business he must be worth another year. I'd rather have Bobby on a one year deal than some journeyman or lower league player that isn't good enough. Bobby will always give 100% while he's wearing a shirt and you can't say that about some players.
On Saturday's performance I'd take Bobby before Wiseman. Unfortunately for Wiseman he also has Stones staking a claim for that spot and on the evidence of what I saw on Saturday he'd be worthy of it.
No I prefer Bobby over Wiseman currently but come this time next year I'd expect Stones to be starting and Wiseman to have either improved or been let go. I don't think Wiseman is half as bad as some make out but even so, if Wiseman hasn't improved I'd rather us use the money wisely for another competent right back that has a few more years in him than re-sign an aging Hassell just for the sake of sentiment.
bobby hassell wouldn't get in the squad on footballing ability? He'd be my first choice right back. In fact he's better than McNulty at centre back too and better than Golbourne and Wiseman at left back. Picking the team goes like this for me every week. 1. Bobby hassell at right back. 2. Luke Steele in goal 3. Jim O'Brien on the right wing 4. Lets try and choose 8 decent players to go with them
