let's be clear; Hill makes the decision if the player can go. It is irrelevent what Don thinks of the bid (which he was open about at our meeting without a figure being given).

And Hammill is on one heck of a wage

Done got two assists in first game. I think he'll chip in with a dozen this season

Maybe not. Or maybe we could sign him for less than the £500,000 and use some of that money to offset his wages. Maybe we couldn't, I dunno, he was just one example of a winger available in that sort of price range from someone who knows next to **** all about what is out there.

I'm not saying that selling Done is necessarily the right thing to do, what with the injuries in the squad and the season almost upon us, but I am saying that £500,000 is a lot of money for a player of his ability and there will definitely be better players out there available for the same money or less.

Bizarre economics clouded by the love for a wonderful footballer. I'm behind you all the way!

Good to take a step back and think what if we said yes? No winger for start of the season who has shown they can do it in a red shirt... while Done helping Palace, a clear relegation rival, get points.

You damned if you do, you're damned if you don't. I can see why Rowing job is so difficult.

Unlike Howard, I don't think Hammill would want a return.

Who would sell us a player as promising and as easy and cheap to negotiate so close to new season?

Would be a very low fee accepted by Wolves for us to use the 500k to offset his wages. He earns A LOT more than that in 12 months.

I think Hammill was just an example of a player who would probably cost around 500k and is better than Done.

Some people are clinically stupid. If Done has a better season, adds a few more goals and assists to his game we'd have a good championship player who might be worth up to £750k. Sell him now with little cover and try and find a good or better replacement with days to go before the start of the season.

Madness. Some folk should stick to Championship Manager.

Yes but would he want to come back? Doubtful, and if he did he'd smash, the careful wage structure the club has put in place. Pie in the sky in ny view.

IF.... or he could drift in and out of games, score the odd goal but miss the odd sitter, run down his contract and leave for peanuts... just my stupid opinion like

It's only an example though - that's the key word.

As for your other comment, I will bet my mortgage that he is not worth £750k in year's time as I believe he is only on a two year contract so to get that kind of money we would need to give him an eighteen month extension (at least) in January. Added to the fact that you are assuming there will be some kind of improvement. Which I don't think there will be.

You think we don't want to offer him one? It is entirely possible that a player doesn't want to talk about a new contract tha nose

I like Matty Done, and I'm glad we aren't selling him.

I didn't assume, I said based on what might have been offered he might be worth that much IF he has a better season, which given some more consistency he is capable of having. I think he will have a better season regardless of his value.

Re: Just so I've got this right in my head

    I like these threads.

We will come back in Feb of next year when he's been booed week in and week out and he signs for Aldershot for **** all.

I think the reason why this has has so much hysteria is because nobody can quite believe another club in the championship would want to sign him.

I watched him a number of times last year and walked away thinking that he liked to hide and run into positions where he couldnt get the ball, looked good running about but really didnt 'want it'. If that is worth 500k then I am sure there are players knocking about that can be just as cheap because there are loads like it in the lower leagues or abroad.

We thought Done was one of our better performers last season and looks promisong. Pleased to see we've turned down a bid for him. Can't win with some folk!
