In the meeting the other day there was an appetitive from those there at creating some kind of fundraising/ business plan to get a new HD video screen to replace the scoreboard at Oakwell. This followed on from Dyson's idea of a squad builder fund.

Don thought it was a good idea and something the club would get behind. Personally I think it would be a great way for fans to contribute towards OUR club in our 125th season.

I would like to suggest that we get as many of us that are interested and have the enthusiasm to drive this forward and come up with a proposal to meet up one evening and come up with a few ideas. Maybe over a pint or two?

Please reply if you are interested and if you can suggest a town center venue. I was wondering if we could get the downstairs of Old Number 7 ?

Only if they get rid of the smell.

I suggest every time hemsworth gets sued we get the claimant to make a donation.

Gally would you be able to find more information from the club as to what the figures actually are? Or if you have any more information could you share it.

A few questions that I'm interested in knowing the answer to.

    1. Is £120k just for the purchase of the screen and setup costs or does it also factor in the running costs?
    2. In your minutes you mentioned that the club are trying to get 12 sponsors to pay for it over a 10 year period. I don't understand this so could you get more information on it please? Sheffield united sell advertising packages on their big screen of 6 30 second ads per game which costs £4k per season. Over 10 seasons that's £40k and a third of BFC's target from just one advertiser. Sell just THREE advertising slots and you've got your £120k so i'm not sure where the 12 sponsors comes from unless we are planning on charging just £1k per year for a company to advertise on the board and if that is the case then there is something seriously wrong with our commercial department if they can't sell that. I could sell two of those packages before the end of today.

If you watch TV or Listen Radio all you see or hear is adds for Betting Sites, Pay Day loans, ppi claim back, and so on there pumping money left right and centre into this sort of advertising,

If i was the Don i'd be trying to put a package together to offer betting sites a incentive to support our club,

    such as

Ads on the back of all match day tickets, front page of match day programme, under the badge on all the players training kit, (i know we're only on tv twice a season but it'll still be seen)
The rights to all on site betting, live odds flashing up on the big screen, ads before kick off and half time on big screen and tvs under the stands,

They pay the club for the rights to all the above and they also get to pay for the big massive screens in two corners of the ground, as well as all the TVs under the stands,

Skybet, Totesport, Bet365, SportingBet, BetFred, BetVictor, BlueSQ, PaddyPower, Bwin, 888Sport, 32Red, YouWin, StanJames, BetFair, ODDSCHECKER,

all spending millions on advertising, why can't we have a slice, I'd visit them all, they can only say no.

    Hi guys

As I've pointed out in another thread , I deal in led lighting and specialist LED video screens and pixel systems.

I'll be more than happy to give you ideas on costs for an HD LED video system or even a basic LED scoreboard .

It's pretty easy to fit any reasonable budget for this type of kit. Although we supply only , this is not as difficult to install as you might think .

With a little planning , in can be done relatively cheaply.

Drop me a line if you need any help or advice.

    Fluff

Is the existing scoreboard totally out of action now or was yesterday a blip?

It was still functioning last season, so was surprised to see it not even switched on yesterday.

Aren't there set betting sponsors that the Football League impose on all clubs? I know SWFC had an issue with fans wanting additional bookmakers in the ground and they had their hands tied because of how the Football League "negotiates" deals for all clubs and gets a cut of the action.

I must admit that an established championship club to not have a working scoreboard is very embarrassing.

Pity there wasnt enough enthsiasm to push the fan power stadium initiative over the line. Would have been a good start to funding a new scoreboard.

An established championship club with championship income having to raise funds to buy a scoreboard alarms me a little.

I'm struggling to see how a fans group can raise 120k.

That money couldn't be used for the scoreboard anyway.

I'm very happy to help if we can get some kind of agreement from the club about the quality of scoreboard that will be bought and some commitment fro them that they will make sure it is put to proper use in maximising revenue income for the club, don't want the Don to take the money we raised and then just buy a cheap replacement

It had to be spent on certain fan orientated products, one being a cannon that fired prizes into the crowd. I don't think we got a straight cheque to do as we please.

We're talking about one of the Championship's very few if not only debt free, self sufficient clubs. There will be dozens quite happy to live without a scoreboard to be able to say that. I think it's a great rallying point to show how far we've come since the dark days of administration and we are fast becoming a model to demonstrate to other clubs how they can turn their fortunes around.
So what if we don't have a scoreboard, it hardly had any bulbs left anyway. It's a smashing idea of Gally's to make it a fan's project and bring us together on something worthwhile. We've got some very bright, hard working and enthusiastic supporters, if we can pool our resources it is not an unrealistic target. Particularly with Fluff's kind offer of help, it's actually his game which is brilliant. It could be a lot of fun too and catch folks' imagination. It's actually a very warm and charming idea that should sell itself. And it's very Barnsley.

Is it bust because its stuck on 'Barnsley 0' given the displays at the back end of last season??

It would be nice to have a screen that can show replays etc. Now that technology has moved on these things are a lot cheaper than they were a few years ago. They even had one in Locke Park last Sunday for the gala showing the Olympics boxing live. Surely a 'stop gap' would be to find a space in the corner of the ground and hire one in on match days. If 'Friends of Locke Park' can afford one on a 1 off basis surely BFC could. (just a guess like). Outsourcing can, sometimes, be the way forward especially re technology and how quickly it is obsolete or outdated.
