It would take us years to raise 120k that the club seem stuck on. I've no idea how we could raise that money.

It's going to take more than a few collection buckets and a few discussions over a pint to come up with 120 grand - I'd suggest setting up something more formal, a non-profit company which has the sole purpose of providing funding to the football club.

The actual income streams are obviously the tough bit, but by being an actual company the assets that are given to the football club could be paid for directly by the company and ownership of something like a scoreboard could be retained but given to the club for free if that was seen as necessary. Advertising could be sold by the company as well instead of leaving it all up to the club who would no doubt sell it off cheaply to local companies instead of trying to attract the bookies, PPI claims, loan companies etc...

Doing it this way means we could actually source the quotes ourselves and call upon the expertise of other forum members to keep costs down - depending on what's included in the 120K, we might actually be able to get exactly the same thing for half the price.

Ideally you want two screens so they can be seen by all of the ground and to maximise the exposure to advertisers. While we're at it, why don't we see if those pixel thingys at the Olympic Stadium are going cheap? Quite like the idea of the East Stand turning into a graphic equaliser on night games!

In all seriousness though the main issue is where does the money actually come from and would we have to have the screens installed before approaching advertisers?

Probably a stupid idea but how about approaching someone like Samsung and saying give us the cash for this screen and it will have 'Samsung' written below it forever? I would imagine that's kind of what Spurs did when they had their Sony 'Megatron' screens installed.

Once we get some money together spend the lot on retro shirts, £15 with p&p each shirt, sell them for £30 and and then buy more & more

I think some of you are getting blinded by this £ 120k figure. It can be done way cheaper than that.

I've just quoted on a rental setup for a hire company . This system is designed to be chuck up in half a day , so is a doddle to install.

9.6 by 5.76 meters 55.296 sqm PH20mm 1R1G1B* outdoor LED video display with high class original SILAN LED chip,MBI5024(conventional solution) driving IC,standard sealed waterproof cabinet, 14 working days delivery time, high quality level with 5 years quality guarantee .

This is a 20mm pitch HD setup and includes a 10KVA generator , flightcases for all the panels and control gear , and soft covers for when used as a stadium perimeter system, non of which would be needed . This was a smidgeon under £ 100k and you could knock £10k off that for the bit not required.

9.6 * 5.7 is a huge screen , by the way , about the size of the side of a house .

As they say you need to speculate to accumulate - very hard to start with nothing.

Getting footballers in as speakers could be a good one, these events are very popular and always sell out. Plenty of famous former footballers on this circuit these days. Could ask the club to allow free use of the legends suite, not sure what the capacity of that would be though? Ideally you need about 300 people paying 30-40 quid a piece. Out of that you need to pay for the speaker, at least a buffet if not an actual meal, other overheads could be covered with bar sales.

S'pose I best throw mi name in.

And to those on about the scoreboard, we're talking about a decent sized video screen like the ones at other clubs - generates income and adds to fan experience (play classic games before a match etc).

I hope someone who is onvolved in this has taken note of "Fluff" in this thread. He appears to be the one person who knows what he is on about and might be able to help, and the one person who is being ignored. . . . .

As Mario knows I live an hour away from Oakwell so it is difficult to offer my time, especially as I don't have a motor at the moment (our lass always has it), but if there is somewhere to give a bit of cash to I will donate. If we can get a tenner out of 8000 people we are on our way. Maybe we could start having a fund we can donate to when purchasing the season tickets (not compulsory obviously)? We can have a fund every season and decide what to do with it. Hopefully the club can make the scoreboard pay for itself and more anyway.

I'll give a tenner if Gordon Owen waxes his knackers for cash.

Seriously, some of the other posters are right - £120k isn't going to be raised by buckets alone. It's best to start at the source, ideally with Don in tow, and see whether we can get a discount for permanent sponsorship (like the Samsung idea) and then try and get local businesses interested.

What about an iphone/android game app. Fee for the app, advertising on it, win prizes for doing well on it (money off tickets or somat) etc. Wouldn't have to be anything fancy - pen shoot-out or something like you saw on the google homepage during the Olympics. Get Keith and a few of the players to do voice overs.

Obviously I haven't thought it through, and I haven't got a clue how it'd make anywhere close to the £120,000. Plus it would be dependent on a Reds fan with expertise in app building to do it on the cheap or for free. Just an idea.

    I'd buy it, anyway.
