Both will have six months left on their contracts come the January transfer window. What's the betting that we lose them both for less than £1m combined?
if this does happen then we'll be in for a poor end to the season same as last time,.and then even less tickets sold for the following season,,its to be hoped the club get their finger out,
The club have got an option of an extra year on some of these 1 year signings. WOnder if Cywka might be one of them.
I hope so. It's one thing to lose your best players but it's even worse to lose them for a fraction of their true worth.
The club can choose to extend their contract but the player can't. I suppose in a way it's like having a potential two year contract but without the risk as you have the option not to offer an extension.
But how firm is this if another club offer the player a contract but we want to keep him is it as strong as having him under contract?
We're limited as to what we can offer in wages, and the hole footballing world knows it, what will happen after the Lester game away, team X will tell their agent they'll give him 16k a week, and that's it jobs done, player says he's leaving club X say they'll give us 200k, we'll say get fecked, the player or agent say take the offer, we say no, agent says he'll make sure every footballer and football agent finds out we're standing in the way of players progress, and wishes us good luck recruiting in the summer, because we'll need it, and that's it another gone for peanuts.
ill stick a tenner on it. cywka is too good for for us anyway and if davies gets in double figures again mid january, we'll have to loook on bringing in another premier league reject
Which means he'll be out of contract next summer. Reckon we'll try tie our key players up to longer deals sooner rather than later. We've already tried doing so with Steele however he wants to ensure he's still the clubs number 1 before signing a new contract. Seen as for me, he's the most important player at the club, he should be.
Still only seen Cywka play once, however he really seems to make a difference. He gives us back that creative edge we've lacked since Vaz Te. I've always said, if the delivery is there, Davies will score goals, 3 already this season. That could easily be 10 by christmas (similar to Vaz Te last year), and although i'm still not convinced by Davies as a footballer, you can't deny he's a quality goalscorer, something 20 or so other teams are looking for in this league. Get em signed up Don.
Problem is, if you were Craig Davies, you will be aware that your bargaining position will be vastly improved come next summer. He will probably say that he isn't interested in negotiating his contract at this stage and let his contract run down I would have thought.
Thing is those aren't the only two out of contract next summer that need new contracts. Done, Sir Bobby and Steele also spring to mind.
Hi I agree with the comments already made; but we signed Davies under a "Bosman", I suspect Chesterfield fans weren't too happy about losing a "valuble asset" for nothing. That's football these days some you win, some you lose. It would make "sense" to sign these players with longer contracts but it didn't work out for Portsmouth. If they have to sold in January, let's hope Hillflick have some replacements in mind.
