Re: re-read it, I am using Irony In the article the club said they were financing the purchase of the scoreboard with a 5 year payment plan; meaning we'll be paying just over £20k per year including interest. The club have said they anticipate that the scoreboard should largely finance itself through advertising revenue. The old one is proving impossible to source replacement parts for and therefore won't be used in future if it breaks. Unless you know of any excellent centre backs who happen to be for sale at £20k and want bugger all wages I'd suggest the desire for a defender is irrelevant in this context. In short, it will improve the matchday experience at a low cost. Surely something we should be happy about as fans?
I hardly believe purchasing a new scoreboard is 'progress' either. I can't see many people thinking, youknow what, ill go to the ground early to watch the new scoreboard, the way we make our money back is if people spend more in the ground, I for one won't be paying £2.20 or whatever it is now for a bottle of coke. Imo it's money which could have been better spent elsewhere.
Do we make any money from this or does it all go to Lindley Catering? We might start making a bit of money if we hurry up and open a bar in the ponty end - and operate it ourselves.
They may be able to get a Heritage Lottery grant for that, I bet it's nearly as old as Wentworth Castle green house. In fact they could make money from it - restore it and market it as the "Heritage Stand" and rent it out to film companies - kerching. They could even rent out clogs, white mufflers, flat caps and rattles to those who sit in there.
Income from marketing, it will earn more than the pitch side boards if done correctly. How can extra income for the club off the field not be progress? Folk moan about them off the field, myself included and then when they make a step in the right direction...... We couldn't buy a dog turd at centre half with 100k
Whinge whinge whinge Seriously, some of you need to get a grip. If I had a quid for every time someone complained (rightly) that the scoreboard is awful, I'd be a rich man. The club listens to the fans, and does a good thing by getting a new scoreboard, and now a lot of people are moaning we should have spent the money on a player! We HAVE money to buy a defender if Hill wants to, an extra £100k won't make much difference at who we can target. We bid £400,000 for Norwood and I assume still have that money if Hill finds a realistic target. All Championship clubs ought to have a decent screen, not just an antiquated scoreboard, so I'm pleased the club have now tackled it. Be happy for once some of you!
It's a step in the right direction. Next is to find a hundred grand to drop a mezzanine ceiling in the east lower, box off the bars stick some seating in with some tvs and your half way to a social club . .
I'm looking forward to the big screen, hopefully some of our greatest highlights can be put on at 2.50 with timerider in the background etc building up to the teams coming out.
Been saying that for ages. Box off the bars with breeze block walls, decorate, carpet and you've got an indoor airport style bar, done at a very low cost. Folk might even want a pint in winter then.
There are some really short-sighted views on the scoreboard here. 1. £100,000 will not buy you a better CB than we already have (there's also wages on top of this obviously). 2. Whilst the scoreboard won't immediately pay for itself with advertising, it will provide another income stream and pay for itself eventually (the club are looking at 5 years). 3. Getting fans into the ground early - there must be some benefits to finances through food and drinks although my understand is that Lindley's pay a fee to sell their products in the ground, I can only assume that the club must receive a cut of the profits or the club may be able to charge them more for opening early. People complaining about the prices - they're no worse than at any other ground although in my opinion the quality of the pies has gone down a lot in the last few years. 4. I'd be very surprised if the screen displayed a constant stream of advertising throughout the match, more likely just the score and time - albeit slightly more colourfully than before. 5. I'm all for the match day experience and when used correctly these screens definitely add to it, providing a focal point whilst nothing is happening on the pitch - surely seeing goals such as Barnard's volley from 1998 will get the fans going.
Re: Whinge whinge whinge Sorry I forgot we are not allowed our own opinion and also not allowed to express it on this forum, il be off to 'get a grip' as you put it then...
Re: Whinge whinge whinge It wasn't aimed at one person, but I stand by what I said, there's a lot of whinging. Whatever the club do, they can't win.
