If this was any other customer facing business they'd be looking at incentives to bring people in be it new menus in a restaurant, a refurbishment, anything to tempt people back to the business. This would require investment from the owners.

Like in the film Field of Dreams 'Build it, he will come'.

Build a winning team and people will go back to Oakwell. No point blaming absentee fans for the financial problems at Oakwell. It's for Barnsley FC to show ambition and leadership. Then, having got the fans back they then, week in and week out, show that desire to provide a product that will make people want to come back, irrespective of the cost of admission. The buck starts at the top - seems to me Patrick Cryne, Don Rowing and Keith Hill are the only ones with the capacity to bring about change in the match day experience at Oakwell.

Re: Barnsley cannot sustain a Championship side long term

your right in the respect that football fans hate to see their team struggle. but the ones that drift away are not football fans. being a football fan of a certain team also entails supporting them when things are not so good also.hence the reward of cheaper prices ala st's. i'm also well aware that good fans cannot always afford a st but get to as many as they can and they also need rewarding. the stayaways can go to hell asw far as i'm concerned.

    Utter monkey ***** nonsense

Unless we are talking about a club with uninterested leadership.

Potential for 15 to 20k home support well capable of holding its own with a bit of long term investment and a slice of luck.

Never mind 28 quid a shot and the occaisional cheapy will get 'em pacled to the rafters....

Maybe if they treated the fans a bit better. I think its a disgrace that fans have be banned from collecting autographs from Oakwell and I saw someone trying to get some during the academy game last week only to be told that if they wernt watching the academy game they would be escorted from the ground and they would get a two match ban as they were just trouble makers. The mans so far out of his depth its untrue

Sadly its 100% true. You usually get only about a dozen people around their as well. Surely that number could be managed instead of being banned.

Jokewell is very apt when it comes to some of their policies. Sad indeed. Shameful stuff by the don.

More to it than that. I believe this issues was raised by the family of one of the auto graphic types directly with Don. An answer and a solution was provided by the club.

Perhaps it would be wise to ask them whether the answer was satisfactory before going on a rant.

Just asked 2 or 3 Barnsley fans who were stalwarts in the 80's and 90's to join me in paying £12.50 for the Blackpool game, no takers.
But they want me to go to Leeds away win them and pay £35+ the reason, atmosphere. Will go away, but won't go to home games.

Why would I ask for a answer? If I am not allowed to do what i've done for years then the club should let me know. They have an official site and a programe the Chronicle etc. Was it in any of this? I have no idea if I can get autographs this week or not.no ones told me. Telling one person doesnt cut the mustard. Would you like to tell me the solution or shall I just guess?

thing is how can we get an atmosphere if people dont turn up,if your mates are barnsley stallwarts then the blackpool game at the price it is ,is the perfect time to show some renewed interest,,,going to the leeds game just because the atmosphere is better is barmy,,and, they're putting money in the pocket of leeds united....its no ****ing wonder we cant compete..

people cant just sit at home to wait for the club to do well again,,,,and to be honest even with the crowds we've had this season the atmosphere in the ponty has been good(cos we've won).

i watched in the 80's and 90's just the same as your mates and i can tell you there were plenty of times when the atmosphere was crap.

Ask Springvale or miserable eastander. Don gave his reasoning and they were happy with what was said.

Again why should I ask anyone? If the club are banning people from collecting autographs they have plenty of opportunities to tell everyone not just the two you have mentioned. As far as I am aware I do not know anyone who posts on here personally so I cant ask them.

Marlon..........supporting through thick and thin may be your philosophy, which of course is admirable...........but it's not the philosophy of a large percentage of football fans.
Most football fans will accept the occasional poor season. But Barnsley fans have been worn down with repeatedly poor seasons.
We have been the whipping boys of the Championship now since we came back into this league.
Surely The Don realises this; so the last thing he should be doing with regard to low attendances is talking to the Chronicle (or any other member of the media) about it.
