Went to bed when he lost his opening service game of 4th set, thought he had blown it, amazed that having lost the 2 set lead he found enough to win the 5th.

Happy for him, worked hard enough for it. Still not quite enough for sports personality imo, however he's a close 2nd

One of the best games of tennis I've seen.

And after seeing him lose every other slam final, I feared the worst going into the fifth. But what a performance he pulled out.

I've said it for years - he'll win the lot once his first comes.

    Well done Murray.

Still HAS to be Wiggo for SPOTY, with Farah in 2nd, and Ennis 3rd. Unless James Milner continues to set the football world alight...

Greatest Summer of sport for any Brit in my lifetime with lots of worthy candidates, for me Wiggins but he is up against the euphoria of the Olympics and its stars plus the cross section of the public that are into Wimbledon fortnight every year and its all down to the voters we are led to believe.

Is cycling as popular to get those votes?

Cav won it last year... but perhaps that's a bad thing? Could another cyclist win it? I hope so.

Aye he did, but the candidates are a lot stronger IMO and there are a lot more to choose from this year. At the end of the day they are champions in their own right and this programme is just a bit of icing on the cake for the winner.

Think Murray should be ahead of Farah. Murray played for lot longer, and while Farah good, he only ran two mile in total. Murray must have done that on the court many times over

    eh?

Farah won the 10,000 meters and the 5,000 meters plus ran the rounds in the 5,000, so 20,000 metres in total. Or 12.4 miles in old money.

But since when was it judged on how far you race? That Usain Bolt must be crap. He only runs 100 metres.

I had to head for the nest last night at the point where Murray's forehand/first serve had started to falter and Djokovic was obviously on his way to winning the third set and I too feared the worst, however it looks like the magic of the Olympics has well and truly rubbed off on our Andy. His performance (I'm ignoring the 3rd/4th set) and victory last night was certainly a fitting end to a quite incredible summer of sporting achievement for little old GB!

Really hope you're right about him now going on to win the lot, I still think his temperament may always be enough of a weakness to prevent him dominating, however I would love to see him enjoy a run of dominance like Djokovic did a few years ago.

SPOTY - really how do you choose a top three from all the great sporting achievers we've seen this summer - perhaps take three from Wiggins/Ennis/Weir/Hoy/Farah/Storey/Murray/Trott/Cockroft/Simmonds/Peacock.

The clue is in the title - Sports PERSONALITY of the Year. Which rules Murray out....

But seriously, I've enjoyed watching both of them over the last decade, and to be honest, whoever triumphs on the night will be a deserving winner I'm sure - we have enough to choose from.

Still chuckling at your reasoning for Murray being more deserving :D
