Following a trend then. I'm sure they found Henry II's remains under a car park in Reading.

Why do we as a race feel it necessary to dig up the remains of dead people who have been put to rest and surely should be left in their rightful place.

I'm not a religious person but I find this quite disrespectful.

You're jumping the gun a little bit

Remains have been found that COULD prove to be those of Richard III.

    All I can say

Is that, with regards to my own discipline, any human remains discovered are treat with the utmost respect and dignity. Whether the remains should be disturbed or excavated depends on the specific circumstances. There is no right or wrong answer and I know of a number of archaeologists, including myself, who find these circumstances (at times) uncomfortable to deal with.

    WRONG THREAD!

Let's not forget that inside the last 20 years we have seen gates of under 4000 at Oakwell - and that was when we finished top 6 in 95.

Hard to explain such fluctuations really:

    3,800 - 22,000 - 9,000 in 20 years?

In this instance I guess so they can be laid to rest in a more appropriate place than under a car park....in Westminster Abbey for example.

Best place would be the Tower Of London.

It's completed for the year now, mate

We've been on numerous Iron Age & Romano British sites on land owned by Brodsworth Hall. This is ongoing work which will, hopefully, continue for a number of years. The objective is to enhance our knowledge of the prehistoric & classical eras of South Yorkshire.

It might sound like a silly question but how are new digs sourced? And have you done one that's really stood out for you?

    This particular project

Started about twelve years ago. The project developed once the initial studies showed just how significant it could become. In order to alleviate cost issues brought about from budget cut backs, three universities (Hull, Sheffield & Cardiff) opted to pool their resources. I get a real buzz out of handling artefacts I've personally excavated, knowing I'm the first person to handle them for two thousand years or more. If you open the Oxford English Dictionary and look up the words 'nerd' & 'geek', you'll find a photograph of me!:D
For something completely different, I'm hoping to get the opportunity, sometime in the future, to do some work at a number of the World War I battlefields in Northern France.
