How would we tell? Definition: A Barnsley Chop is a lamb chop taken from right across the loin which becomes a double sided chop. It is sometimes referred to as a saddle chop as it is cut across the saddle producing a double loin chop with a little under fillet all in one. The Barnsley Chop is believed to have originated at Brooklands Hotel, in Barnsley, where it is still served, though some claim it was the Kings Head pub in Barnsley or another: Whilst many restaurants have often claimed they serve the genuine lamb chop, few keep to the actual cut of the meat which was introduced over 8 decades ago. The art of cooking the meat is a slow and loving process which few have the patience for and instead introduce second rate imitations onto their menus. This fantastic meat is part of our heritage in Barnsley and it is only right that we keep it in its original form, and give people a real Barnsley treat. The Barnsley chop’s creation is accredited to Barnsley Master Butcher, Albert Hirst. He wanted to create a special dish to be served to H.R.H. Edward, Prince of Wales, when he came to officially open Barnsley Town Hall on the 14th December, 1933. This presentation of a 1lb and 60z Barnsley chop to Edward, Prince of Wales, was the introduction of a true delicacy into Yorkshire culture, a feast which even HRH couldn’t finish. So just clear all this up, we serve the authentic version which is prepared as a very thick chop cut just over the kidney and on one side only and then cooked extremely slowly. As it is such a lengthy process we request that you order your Barnsley chop a few days in advance of dining to avoid disappointment.
I forgot about the Mexican there before Romano's. Was decent in there, shame not enough people went to keep it going. Think its the same people who had it who run the Mexican in Wakefield. Barnsley could do with a Centertainment type place. Chiquitos is ok as well as Coal, Giraffe and the other Mexican in the Oasis, Chillango is it?
The one that was in Barnsley wasn't the same folk who have the Wakey one, not if you are thinking of Mex Cantina which has really gone down hill. My ex know the owners of the one in Barnsley, genuine Mexican couple, the bloke was a doctor at the hospital which is where she knew him from. They did authentic Mexican from their particular region, not Tex Mex or Chilli con carne but started doing that toward the end and he looked gutted when he told us. Like you say though, not enough folk went in. None of the ones you mention are anything like Mexican and don't even come close to what you can get in the US.
A Barnsley chop is 3 or 4 double sided chops together.....it's more like a small joint than a chop. Brooklands did it, not sure if new owners still do
did a search and found their facebook page. They are advertising fosters , carlsberg, John smiths or woodpecker Hmmm sounds Mexican to me! They are advertising Tex-Mex food though
New town centre has 4 restaurant spaces, one is already taken by Nando's so maybe we may get a Mexican.
That's my business plan out the window. Was talking to Nandos about a franchise for Tarn. Obviously nicked my idea. B@stards.
Aye, the circle of restaurants are going to be where the outdoor market is across from The Groggers, a dunt fancy watching folk in't Groggers though while l'm tearing strips off a chicken wi ar lass.
LD Red, Viva Tequila in Sheff is a proper Mexican. So was just asking. But yes Eaststander your right. Although not in the U.S. I was in Cancun the other year and have to say the food and beer was amazing. The only place where I have gone when it’s not watered down rubbish. Not one hangover or problems with food. The hotel’s Mexican restaurant was quality. Also went to a Mexican in Toronto which was good. Never been that fussed about Nando’s. Well should say never been allowed to be fussed as the missus isn’t really a fan of Chicken.
