    No, thought not!!!!

So why is Hill moaning about it this year?
Always moaning about others having more money than him, forgive me , but did he not know that when he took the job? That is the reason he was given it!

Get over it and get on with playing football like we have this season, show the other clubs that you dont need the money instead of whinging every bloody interview!!

Fire away now , tin hat firmly stuck on.

The payments were to help a club in financial troubles brought on by the huge wage increases required to 'compete' in the P.L. not to be used to bankroll your promotion push. People have questioned why Blackburn didnt spend big in January to help their relegation fight, the fact is they didnt have any cash. If they dont go up this season then they will be another Portsmouth mark my words.

no the payments aren't knew but they have gone from being helpfull to a relegated club, to being a very favourable assisatance to getting almost instant promotion back to premiere league asap to detriment of so called smaller clubs. good on you keefy.

He was asked by the Radio Sheff Journo about his thoughts on the parachute payments given the fact that the difference between the two teams last night was a striker that Blackburn had paid £8m for just recently.

I get the impression he would have an opinion on anything he's asked when there's a microphone in front of him.

No not new but £60 million over four years is new and is also grossly unfair and damaging to competition in the championship.

60 million quid over five years. What a sobering thought for those that don't get it. Premier League 2 in all but name, but with the TV money much less equitably divided. The question is, how long can we stick around for?

I think the Premiership should restrict the parachute payments to ensuring relegated clubs can cover their EXISTING wage bill. Give them enough for that so they don't go under but somehow ensure the money is not spent elsewhere if possible. That way clubs cannot use the payments for building squads, only to prevent financial ruin. Probably not workable but something similar is surely fairer than presenting clubs with a war chest to build a squad to walk the Championship.

Or contracts with automatic wage reductions if relegated

hence why the parachute payments are now practically free cash. Wasn't 8 years ago when these clauses weren't in contracts

Maybe some how payments should be relative to the teams premier division wage bill and revenue , and if players are sold etc and the wage bill is reduced then so are the payments.

Seems strange that in the unlikely event that man utd got relegated they would still get the same payments that Reading would get, even though they would need the money less.

They did. And we received around £1.5m if I'm remembering correctly.

Put it this way, it was a drop in the ocean compared to this day and age.

As others have said already, Blackburn hadn't a penny to spend in January, yet they then get relegated, and are rewarded with a shitload of cash to then recruit the likes of Nunes, Etuhu, Best, Gomes, Murphy and Rhodes.

It's a fcukin disgrace. And Keith is spot on to whinge about it.

However, it was **** all to do with parachute payments that we lost last night, and more to do with shocking defending.
But as you must be aware by now, Keith will use interviews to take the spotlight off such errors, and instead gets us all talking about him.

    Clever.

    Endeavour.

Each to their own, but I thought it was an entertaining, passionate interview from a man who genuinely cares about the club he currently works for. He has been criticised in some parts for being critical of the fans, yet last night he spoke well of the state of football, the financial restrictions on fans being able to attend and spoke passionately about how he works for the club and the fans.

To suggest that he spoke like that as a smokescreen is somewhat harsh and pessimistic of you. I genuinely feel that he says what he says because he believes it and has the opportunity to express himself on a regular basis through the media.

I still find it hypocritical that Barnsley folk who pride themselves on being direct and straight talking take such umbrage with a man who is not shy of giving his opinion.

Keep going Keith. Top man in my book.

Smokescreen? for a very narrow defeat to the top of the league who we outplayed for most of the game and who were plying their trade in the Premiership a few month ago.

Why would he need a smokescreen?
