In my time the best is clear. Danny Wilson.

The worst, there's been a few and I wouldn't like to say. What I do know is that there have been a lot of managers existing in the grey twilight between good and bad and the ultimate opinion is subjective to the extreme. Without being a fence sitter, my least favourite was Davey - but he kept us in the division whilst taking us the FA Cup semi final - so my opinion can easily be pulled apart.

Difficult to say who was best really, because they all managed under different scenarios and in different eras, but you can't ignore the impact that Allan Clarke had on the club when he first arrived. He soured his reputation a little when he came back though by being a misery. Guts and selling our best players. Wilson was excellent too, but hit his limitations when we went up, i.e. he worked better building a team on a shoestring, but give him a bigger budget and he becomes susceptible to being talked into paying money for German goalkeepers who have never played a professional game in their life!

I'd probably still go for Wilson though!

We've had a few poor/disappointing ones, but taking into consideration the football we saw and the stories (from the horse's mouth) of the ineptitude off the pitch I'd have to agree with Spackman. I was really happy when we appointed him too.

No, seriously, it has to be Danny Wilson for the best, and Nigel Spackman the worst. For me.

Best - Alan Clarke, Did well when Barnsley where in old Division 2 with zero cash to spend.

Worst - Robins, was a sulky tit, should have tied club players to better contracts like Keith is doing.

Wilson would have to be the best for the achievement at the club, although he has never done it since anywhere else, so there is a strong possibility that 1996/97 was a fluke.

Favourite manager otherwise would be a toss up between Allan Clarke and Norman Hunter - Clarke laid the foundations and can probably be said to have had the most profound impact on the club of any manager, but Hunter finished the job with promotion in 81 and had us playing the best football I've ever seen at Oakwell.

There have been some poor managers at the club but I am going to base the decision on how uninspiring I found each, and on that basis it goes to Davey. If it was down to the (lack of) success of their tenure then it would be Parkin, although we were in dire straits at the time of his reign.

Not Robins fault for the ineptitude of the Board.

Am I the only person to remember Viv Anderson's horror story? Now there was a man seriously out of his depth..

best - Wilson, also Ritchie did a great job until he went mad and refused to sign any players

worst - Hodges was truly terrible but his circumstances were not easy. Hart had a big budget but was generally prettyterrible plus came across as a total bell end.
